Bees, ants and stinging nettles all inject formic acid into the skin causing a 'burning' or itching sensation.
Although most ant species bite, rather than sting, some ants do have a sting; most noticeably the infamous fire ant of which there are approximately 285 different species.
Incidentally the name Formic acid is derived from the Latin for ant - Formica.
