Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. Which literary detective 'stung' Professor Moriarty?

Answer: Sherlock Holmes

A 'sting' doesn't need to be a formal operation. Slang usage can mean simply 'to get the better of' according to 'Funk & Wagnalls Standard Desk Dictionary'.

SPOILER WARNING:

While battling criminal mastermind Moriarty in 'The Final Problem', it was believed that Sherlock Holmes fell to his death along with Professor Moriarty. Not so, as the reader discovers in 'The Adventure of the Empty House' where Holmes survived the fall. Eventually he retired and moved to the Sussex Downs where his hobby was beekeeping. There he wrote the 'Practical Handbook of Bee Culture, with some Observations upon the Segregation of the Queen' which he called 'the magnum opus of my latter years' ('His Last Bow').
