Winning an American Triple Crown is a very difficult achievement. The last horse to do claim this title was "Affirmed" in 1978. The three races that the horse must win are The Kentucky Derby, The Preakness, and finally The Belmont Stakes, in that order.

When he passed away at the age of 110 years, Frank Woodruff Buckles was the last surviving American soldier from WWI. In 1917, he joined the United States Army at the age of 17. He also served in WWII and spent three years as a prisoner of war. Upon his death, President Barack Obama ordered the American flag to be lowered at half-mast and attended his funeral at Arlington National Cemetery.

At the time of his passing, Mr. Buckles was the oldest WWI veteran in the world as well as the last field veteran of the war.

There were two other veterans of the war, both British, still living. Claude Choules and Florence Green both lived to the age of 110 and were the oldest British WWI veterans at the time of their deaths in 2011 and 2012, respectively.
