1. British suffragettes chose purple as their cause's color

To show unity for women's rights and power in society, Emmeline Pethick-Lawrence, the co-editor of "Votes for Women" magazine, chose the color scheme in 1908 to represent their beliefs. Purple stood for dignity, royalty, and loyalty. They also included green for hope and white for purity.
2. Douglas MacArthur receives the first modern Purple Heart

The Purple Heart was established in 1782 and given out by President George Washington. The oldest U.S. military medal was reinstated in February 22, 1932 when it was given to Douglas MacArthur, the Army chief of staff at the time. The timing was special as it aligned with the 200th anniversary of George Washington's birthday.
3. Sheb Wooley hits number one with "Purple People Eater"

Novelty songs were the rage in the late 1950s and early 1960s. Sheb Wooley was a prominent actor in cowboy films in the U.S. and a recording artist. Sheb's only Billboard Hot 100 Singles top ten hit was his 1958 story of a purple alien with one eye who wanted to be a rock and roll singer. which went straight to number one.
4. Jimi Hendrix plays "Purple Haze" at Woodstock

On Monday August 19, 1969, the legendary Woodstock concert in upstate New York closed with Jimi Hendrix as the final act. Jimi was wearing a legendary red bandana as he wowed the thousands in attendance with an epic set list including "Purple Haze" and a rendition of the U.S. National Anthem.
5. The Minnesota Vikings go to their first Super Bowl

The Minnesota Vikings defense had a nickname of the "Purple People Eaters" for their dominant play and their signature purple uniforms. During the 1970s, the team played in four Super Bowls and lost all four. Their first appearance in 1970 was against the Kansas City Chiefs where they lost 23 to 7.
6. Count Von Count debuts on the fourth season of Sesame Street

Many in Generation X learned to count by watching the children's show "Sesame Street" and counting along with Count Von Count. The purple-faced character was a parody of Count Dracula and appeared on season 4 in a sketch counting blocks with Bert and Ernie.
7. Thanos makes his first appearance in a comic book

The purple super villain from the blockbuster film "Avengers Infinity War" in 2018 first made his appearance in 1973 in the comics. The story line appeared in issue #55 of "The Invincible Iron Man" which had a release date of February 1973.
8. Alice Walker released the book "The Color Purple"

Be careful here; the Oscar winning film "The Color Purple" came out in 1985 but Alice Walker's novel was released in 1982. In 1983, the book won the Pulitzer Prize for Fiction. The book told the story of Celie, a girl growing up in Georgia in the early 1900s.
9. Prince releases the LP "Purple Rain"

A month before the release of the movie "Purple Rain", Prince and the Revolution released the soundtrack to the film. Buoyed by hits like "When Doves Cry", "Let's Go Crazy", and the title track, the album is widely considered one of the greatest soundtrack albums of all-time.
10. Playstation 5 comes out with a Galactic Purple controller

In 2022, the Sony Playstation wanted to add a little color flair to their gaming console and created a matching Galactic Purple cover and matching controller. While the look of the machine was vibrant, the Slim Version of the console didn't change the inner workings. You simply snapped off the cover and replaced it with the vivid new option.
