Did you know?

- Chisinau, Moldova's capital, dates back to 1420, however, much of the city was destroyed in the Second World War and by an earthquake that struck in 1940. It was largely rebuilt by the Soviets.

- Tiraspol is the birthplace of model and entertainer, Valeria Lukyanova, who is famous for her resemblance to the Barbie doll.

- Balti means "bucket" in the Balti language, referring to the traditional cookware used to prepare its renowned dishes. It can also be interpreted as "food from the mountains."

- Bender is known for the "Tighina Fortress" which was built from earth and wood during the reign of Prince Stephen the Great who ruled from 1457 to 1504. In 1538 it was conquered by the Turkish sultan Suleiman the Magnificent, who ordered it to be rebuilt in stone and enlarged.

- Ribnita uniquely features three places of worship located right next to each other; a Catholic church, an Orthodox church, and a synagogue.
