La Paz is the administrative capital of Bolivia holds the highest capital record at an altitude of 11,910 ft (3,630 m). The full name of the city upon foundation was Nuestra Señora de La Paz. The city of Sucre is the constitutional capital of Bolivia and home of Bolivia's Supreme Court.

The English gave Suriname to the Dutch in 1667 (in the Treaty of Breda) in exchange for New Amsterdam which we now know as New York! The official language is Dutch, but English is widely spoken.

Rio de Janeiro's name is derived from the date the Portuguese discovered it. On January (Janeiro) 1, 1502 the Portuguese thought they had discovered the mouth to a river (or Rio) and landed, but were soon to discover it was only a bay (now known as Guanabara Bay).
