Suriname is a country whose people have a number of religious beliefs, including Hindustani and Muslim as well as Protestant. A number of languages including Dutch and English plus Creole are spoken.

The whole of the eastern coast of Belize borders the Caribbean Sea. The country a British colony until it became independent in 1981. However, neighbouring Guatemala gave no recognition to this act and laid claim to the nation. In 1993 Belize became a democratic state of its own.

El Salvador has a coastline on the Pacific Ocean. In 1992 the country ended a twelve year civil war which claimed the lives of over 75,000 people. The capital San Salvador can be found in the central region of the country.

The civil war that raged on for thirty six years ended in 1996 and claimed the lives of over 100,000 people. It was one of the few countries to have its capital named the same as its country. Guatemala is bordered by Mexico, Belize, Honduras and El Salvador.

Nicaragua won independence from Spain in 1821. Its population was around five and half million at the turn of the 21st century. It was hit by Hurricane Mitch in 1998, which hit the country's economy badly.
