Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
Answer:

There are five regions in Asia namely, South-East Asia (SEA), East Asia, South Asia, Central Asia and West Asia aka Middle East. SEA is a region which is bordered to the north by East Asia, to the west by South Asia and the Bay of Bengal and to the east by Oceania.

In term of size, Indonesia (1.9 m sq. km) is the largest, followed by Myanmar (676568 sq. km), Thailand (331210 sq. km) and the Philippines (300000 sq. km). Singapore (718 sq. km) is the smallest. Indonesia is the most populous nation (274 m), followed by Philippines (115 m), Vietnam (98m) and Thailand (72m). Brunei is the least populous nation (less than 500,000).

Timor Leste aka East Timor is the newest nation. It gained independence from Indonesia in 2002, after it was annexed in 1975 (when it declared independence from Portugal).

The decolonization of South-East Asian countries occurred after the end of WWII: Indonesia in 1945, Philippines in 1946, Myanmar (Burma) in 1948, North Vietnam in 1945 and South Vietnam in 1948 (unified in 1975), Laos in 1953, Cambodia in 1953, Malaya in 1957, Sarawak and Sabah in 1963 (formed Federation of Malaysia in 1963), Singapore in 1965 (self-governing started in 1959, part of Malaysia from 1963-1965) and Brunei in 1984.
