2. An excellent choice of professional cameras is any Nikon 3 Series SLR, what does SLR stand for?

Answer: Single Lens Reflex

Single lens reflex cameras use a mirror between the lens and the film or digital sensor to reflect the view from the lens up to a prism that redirects it to the eye piece of the camera. This allows you to view what you are photographing exactly as it appears through the (Single) Lens you are using.

This mirror must move up (Reflex) up out of the way so that it will allow the film or digital sensor to record the view you have just seen.

Aloo Gobi is a popular vegetarian dish from the Indian subcontinent. It is commonly prepared and eaten in regions of India, Pakistan and Bangladesh. The main ingredients of aloo gobi are cauliflower (gobi) and potatoes (aloo) cooked with various spices such as turmeric, cumin, coriander and garam masala.

6. What type of bread is a US Southerner most likely to make in a cast iron skillet?

Answer: Cornbread

By far the best way to make Southern cornbread is with a cast iron skillet. Southern cornbread typically has less sugar than northern cornbread. It also typically uses buttermilk. The critical step with southern cornbread is heating the oil in the skillet before adding the bread batter.

This is what gives it a wonderful crust. Best of all, making great cornbread is easy and delicious! Well-made Southern biscuits are an incredible treat. They use a baking sheet, not a cast iron skillet. Sourdough and sweet potato bread both use a bread pan.

7. The board game Othello was patented in 1971 by Goro Hasegawa in which country?

Answer: Japan

Goro Hasewaga is a Japanese inventor who created the game Othello, which is similar to the game Reversi but with a couple of differences. One difference is how the starting pieces are set up. In Othello, starting pieces are placed in the centre of a grid board in a diagonal pattern. In Reversi, it is the players who place the pieces on the board. In Reversi, if a player can no longer place a piece on the board the game is over. In Othello, the player simply misses a turn. There is some debate about the creation of the game as Hasewaga initially said that it was influenced by Reversi but later changed that and said he had created it from an original idea.

8. What is usually the main ingredient in the delicious Italian dumplings known as gnocchi?

Answer: potato

Most of the Italian-style gnocchi you will find in grocery stores - in Italy and elsewhere - are made with starchy mashed potatoes mixed with flour and a bit of salt. The dough, which should not be worked too long to ensure a light texture, is cut into smallish pieces (about the size of a wine cork), often scored with a fork to make it easier for the sauce to stick to the dumplings' surface. Gnocchi are then cooked in boiling water, and served as a first course with tomato-based sauces, pesto, or simply with butter and cheese.

Other kinds of gnocchi made with different ingredients - such as semolina, cornmeal, bread or ricotta - can also be found in various Italian regional cuisines. Potato-based gnocchi are a relatively recent dish, probably dating from the 18th century, when potatoes became widely cultivated in Europe. Oatmeal is not typical of Italian cooking, while rice is used to make fried croquettes rather than boiled dumplings; sausage, on the other hand, is often a component of tortellini or ravioli fillings.

10. Why were British 'Penny Black' stamps changed to red less than a year after being introduced in 1840?

Answer: So that postmarks were easier to see

The world's first postage stamp to be issued on a nationwide basis, around 68 million 'Penny Blacks' were printed from April 1840, but it soon became obvious that black post office cancellation marks were sometimes invisible, and people could easily re-use the stamps.

The problem was initially countered by cancelling them in red ink, but this was not always much more obvious than black. Early in 1841, the first 'Penny Reds', much lighter in colour, began to appear.
