Answer: Barney Martin

Barney Martin, most famous for playing Morty on "Seinfeld", was the original Amos. Jerry Orbach was the original Billy Flynn, Joel Grey starred as Amos in the revival production, and Richard Korthaze was the understudy who eventually would replace Martin.

Answer: Charles Nelson Reilly

Charles Nelson Reilly was the original Bud Frump. Morse played Finch in the original production, Teague was in the movie version as Bud, and Matthew Broderick was the star of the most recent revival. Reilly also played Mr. Henkel in "Bye Bye Birdie" and Cornelius in "Hello, Dolly".

Answer: Zero Mostel

Zero Mostel was the first to play Tevye. Topol, Herschel Bernadi, and Alfred Molina all played Tevye in revival productions. Topol also starred in the movie versions. Mostel won Tony awards for his performances in "Fiddler", "A Funny Thing Happened on the Way to the Forum", and the play "Rhinoceros".

Answer: Ben Vereen

Vereen was the first to play Judas on Broadway. Carl Anderson was in the movie version, and Jeff Fenholt played Jesus in the original cast. Vereen has since starred in "Pippin", "Grind", "Jelly's Last Jam", and "Wicked".

Answer: Stephanie Mills

Stephanie Mills was the original Dorothy in "The Wiz". Mabel King played Eviline in the cast. Diana Ross was in the movie version. Because Stephanie Mills played the entire four-year run, and starred in the only revival, to this day she has been the only actress cast in the part on Broadway.

Answer: Jill Haworth

Jill Haworth beat out Liza Minnelli for the part she desperately wanted, however won over in the movie. Penny Fuller was standby for the role, and Chita Rivera has starred in other Kander and Ebb hits, but not "Cabaret". "Cabaret" is Haworth's only Broadway performance.

Answer: Colm Wilkinson

Colm Wilkinson was the original Jean Valjean. Terrence Mann played Javert in the original Broadway production. Michael Crawford and Jonathon Pryce have starred in other Cameron Mackintosh musicals. The Irish actor won a 1987 Theatre World Award for his performance.

Richert was the first Peggy Sawyer to appear on Broadway. Ruby Keeler was in the movie version, and Tammy Grimes as Dorothy Brock in the original production. While "42nd Street" was her only time originating a character on stage, she was a replacement cast member in both "Nine" and "A Chorus Line".

Len Cariou was the first Broadway Sweeney. George Hearn replaced him in the production, and a young Victor Garber played Anthony. Bob Gunton was Sweeney in a late 80's revival. Len Cariou won a Tony and a Drama Desk Award for his portrayal of Sweeney Todd. Cariou also starred in another Sondheim musical on Broadway, "A Little Night Music."

Donna McKechnie was the original Cassie. Priscilla Lopez was the original Diana. Ann Reinking played Cassie later in the show's 15-year run, and Alyson Reed played Cassie in the 1985 movie. McKechnie was also in the original casts of "How To Succeed...", "Promises, Promises", "State Fair" and "Company". Additionally, she was once briefly married to "A Chorus Line" visionary, Michael Bennett.

Answer: Andrea McArdle

McArdle was the original Broadway Annie. Parker played the role in the late 70's, Quinn was in the 1982 movie, and Danielle Brisebois was Andrea McArdle's standby. Since "Annie" she has appeared in "Les Miserables", "Starlight Express", "Beauty and the Beast" and "State Fair".

Answer: Chita Rivera

Chita was the first Broadway Anita. Rita Moreno won the role in the movie, and Debbie Allen played the role in an 80's revival. After "West Side Story", Rivera appeared in "Bye Bye Birdie", "Chicago", "The Rink", "Kiss of the Spider Woman", and the "Chita Rivera: A Dancer's Life".

Answer: Michael Cerveris

Cerveris was the first to play Tommy on Broadway in 1993. Roger Daltrey starred in the movie, while Jonathon Dokuchitz was part of the original Broadway company. Cerveris would later star in "Titanic", "Assassins" and the 2005 revival of "Sweeney Todd".

Answer: Danielle Ferland

Danielle Ferland was the original Little Red in "Into the Woods". Kim Crosby played Cinderella, and Pamela Winslow was Rapunzel. Molly Ephraim dawned the red cape in the revival. Ferland was most recently seen on Broadway in 2003's "A Year with Frog & Toad".

Answer: Kerry Butler

Kerry Butler was the first to play the role on Broadway. Ellen Greene starred as Audrey both Off-Broadway and in the movie. Butler is most famous for her role as Penny Pingleton in the original cast of "Hairspray", but also was a replacement cast member for Belle in "Beauty and the Beast" and Eponine in "Les Miserables".

Answer: Terrence Mann

Mann was the first to play Beast on Broadway. Gary Beach played Lumiere in the original production, and Chuck Wagner was understudy for Beast. Other starring roles of Mann's include Frank-n-Furter in "The Rocky Horror Show", Chauvelin in "The Scarlet Pimpernel", the Rum Tug Tugger in "Cats" and Javert in "Les Miserables".

Answer: Gene Barry

Gene Barry was the original Georges. George Hearn played Albin. Peter Marshall played Georges later in the original run, while Robert Goulet replaced Daniel Davis in the role in the recent revival. While Gene Barry was a frequent Broadway performer in the 40's and 50's, Georges was his last Broadway role.

Sherie Rene Scott was the original Amneris. Idina Menzel replaced her in the role, and Heather Headley played the title role. In a Broadway twist of fate, Idina Menzel replaced Scott and Amneris, and Scott would also replace Menzel in the role of Maureen in "Rent".

Answer: Kristin Chenoweth

Kristin made her Broadway debut creating the role of Precious McGuire. Debra Monk played Shelby Stevens in the production, and Cady Huffman served as Monk's standby. Chenoweth would later star in "Wicked" and "You're A Good Man, Charlie Brown", for which she won a Tony Award.

Answer: Raul Julia

Raul Julia was the first Broadway Guido. Banderas starred in the revival, and was replaced by Stamos. Tommy Tune directed and choreographed the production. Julia is most recognizable to many as the actor who played Gomez in "The Addams Family" movies of the early 90's.
