Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
Answer:

The assassin who cannot remember who he is and only recalls his past in flashes, Jason Bourne, was created by Robert Ludlum, who featured him in three novels: "The Bourne Identity" (1980), "The Bourne Supremacy" (1986) and "The Bourne Ultimatum" (1990). After Ludlum's death in 2001, his estate granted permission to Eric van Lustbader to continue the series. He picked up the stories where Ludlum left off, starting with "The Bourne Legacy" in 2004. He would write a total of eleven novels that incorporated the character, finishing with "The Bourne Initiative" in 2017, at which point he retired from the cycle. The mantle of author then passed on to Brian Freeman, who created "The Bourne Evolution" (2020), "The Bourne Treachery" (2021) and "The Bourne Sacrifice" (2022).

Robert Ludlum was an American author who created 27 novels during his lifetime, commencing with "The Scarletti Inheritance" in 1971. His writing style and fast paced action proved so popular that his works have been translated into 33 different languages and his books have sold well in excess of 300,000 copies across the globe. He contributed three novels, in concert with Gayle Lynds and Philip Shelby, toward the "Covert-One" series that was also his brainchild. Since his passing, his estate has granted licenses to several authors who have created more than 30 additional novels, utilizing the "Robert Ludlum" brand name.

Eric van Lustbader is also an American author who, initially, wrote for the music magazine Cashbox, before launching his first novel "The Sunset Warrior" in 1978. Aside from the "Bourne" continuation, he is best known for his gripping "Nicholas Linnear / The Ninja" progression of stories.

Brian Freeman, whilst he's not part of the collection in this quiz, has also added works to the "Jason Bourne" saga. He is a prolific author who gained global attention for his psychological thrillers that featured Jonathan Stride and Serena Dial. His debut novel, "Immoral" (2005), won him the MacAvity Award for best first novel and also earned him an Edgar Award nomination.

In the backstory to our protagonist, Jason Bourne, we discover that his real name is David Webb; a man who loses his Thai wife and children (though, later, we discover that his son Joshua had survived) to an errant attack during the Vietnam War. He loses his way until he's recruited into an assassination squad known as Medusa. He is then enrolled in a programme known as Treadstone Seventy-One. It is here that he is given the identity of Jason Bourne, a name that belonged to a double agent that Webb had executed during his Medusa days in Vietnam. Ludlum's tale then commences in "The Bourne Identity" (1980) with Bourne being fished out of the Mediterranean Sea. He is barely alive, has a bullet in his head that has impacted upon his memories and, as a result, he has no idea who he is and why so many people are trying to kill him.
