Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. What is Alexandre Dumas' sequel to "The Three Musketeers"?

Answer: Twenty Years After

"The Four Musketeers" was a 1974 film and a sequel to Richard Lester's "The Three Musketeers" film. "Twenty Years After" is, not surprisingly, set 20 years after "The Three Musketeers" and features the four musketeers (Aramis, Porthos, D'Artagnan, and Athos) from the first novel.
2. What is the sequel to Stephen King's 1977 novel "The Shining"?

Answer: Doctor Sleep

The 2013 novel "Doctor Sleep" features Dan Torrance, who was the boy Danny in "The Shining" but is now middle-aged. Ewan McGregor plays Dan Torrance in the 2019 film.
3. What was Louisa May Alcott's first sequel to "Little Women"?

Answer: Little Men

The second volume of "Little Women" was originally published separately, under the title "Good Wives", but since incorporated as the second part of the original book. "Little Men", written in 1871, is the sequel to 1868/1869's "Little Women". It focuses on the children at the Plumfield school run by Josephine Bhaer (also known as Jo March).
4. Which novel did Harper Lee write which has been promoted by the publisher as a sequel to "To Kill a Mockingbird"?

Answer: Go Set a Watchman

"Go Set a Watchman" is probably an early draft of "To Kill a Mockingbird". I haven't read it, but the reviews I've seen of it are generally poor. In particular, Atticus Finch is shown to be somewhat racist (for instance, he speaks against the NAACP).
5. Which of these can be considered a sequel to Mark Twain's "The Adventures of Tom Sawyer"?

Answer: All of these

All of the novels listed were written by Mark Twain. Tom Sawyer appears in all of them. "Tom Sawyer, Detective" was probably the inspiration for the Tom Sawyer character who appeared in "The League of Extraordinary Gentlemen" film.
6. What was Lewis Carroll's sequel to "Alice's Adventures in Wonderland"?

Answer: Through the Looking-Glass

"Through the Looking-Glass" features the poem "Jabberwocky", Tweedledum and Tweedledee, Humpty Dumpty. The March Hare and the Mad Hatter, both in "Alice's Adventures in Wonderland", appear in the sequel.
7. What is Dodie Smith's sequel to "The Hundred and One Dalmatians"?

Answer: The Starlight Barking

"102 Dalmatians" was a sequel to the live-action film with Glenn Close starring as Cruella De Vil. The plot of "The Starlight Barking" has not been made into a movie. The story features and enchanted sleep which affects everything except dogs, and Sirius the Dog Star as an advisor to the dogs.
8. Based on the title, which of Milton's poems can be considered a sequel to "Paradise Lost"?

Answer: Paradise Regained

"Paradise Regained" contains the line "The childhood shows the man, / As morning shows the day". "Paradise Regained" centers mostly on temptation of Christ by Satan and continues the theological themes contained in "Paradise Lost"
9. What series of books is a sequel to J.R.R Tolkien's "The Hobbit"?

Answer: The Lord of the Rings

"The Hobbit" is a children's novel. "The Lord of the Rings" trilogy is probably the best known fantasy work, and inspired Peter Jackson's Oscar winning film adaptations.
10. What was Elmore Leonard's sequel to "Get Shorty"?

Answer: Be Cool

"Get Shorty" and "Be Cool" both feature Chili Palmer, the loan-shark turned entertainment mogul. John Travolta played Chili in both film adaptations.
