Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. Standing on a wooden platform in St. Kitts, about to be sold as a slave, Hope Westcott watches as the man who abandoned her walks away without a care. Who is this man?

Answer: Lord Arthur Falkland

Thinking Lord Falkland was saving her from the long trip across the Atlantic, Hope stowed away on his ship wanting to surprise him. Lord Falkland was indeed surprised to see Hope, and so was his wife.
2. Nathaniel Mason gave up his merchant brig to purchase Miss Hope. Having no ship to return home, he signs on as navigator aboard which ship?

Answer: Lady Devon

Unfortunately a hurricane is predicted so most of the crew refuse to set sail, leaving the ship quite undermanned. Because of this Nathaniel must do a lot more than he bargained for, and Captain Conway is a hard man to please.
3. Once aboard this ship, Hope and Nathaniel make the acquaintance of a young sailor, Gavin who?

Answer: Keese

Gavin is a care-free young man who loves the thrill of being at see. He is quite adventurous and will try anything if it takes his fancy.
4. Abigail Sheldon is on her way to Kingstown to help one of the local pastors. Where had her parents been spreading the gospel before their death?

Answer: Antigua

Abigail's parents were "missionaries with the Society for the Propagation of the Gospel in Foreign Parts." Unfortunately they were killed in a slave uprising. Abigail is on her way to Kingstown to continue her parents' work under the guidance of a family friend.
5. What is the name of Mr. and Mrs. Hendrick's daughter whom Hope befriends on their journey to Kingstown?

Answer: Elise

Elise is only six years old, and not too comfortable about traveling upon the sea. As much as her parents try to keep them apart, Hope and Elise form a strong bond. After Eleanor dies in childbirth, Mr. Hendrick leaves Elise in Hope's care.
6. The crew members who survive the hurricane and make it to the small island have to learn to get along and work together while they wait to be rescued. They split into two groups; those who are willing to wait and those who want to build a raft. The group who want to leave is led by Major who?

Answer: Paine

The Major can't stand following directions given by someone of a lower rank, and definitely not those given by a mere carpenter! He and William Hendrick oversee the construction of a raft, upon which they hope to make it to Puerto Rico, assuming no one rescues them beforehand.
7. Captain Poole and his crew of pirates rescue the group from what is left of their raft. On returning to the island Nathaniel and Mr. Hendrick have a duel. Why?

Answer: William called Hope a strumpet

After his wife's death, William became rather angry. "Stupid woman! She couldn't do even this right without killing herself and my son."
Horrified at his lack of sorrow, Hope yells that Eleanor's death was all his fault. Grieving and furious he shouts at Nathaniel, "You could have healed her. You healed this strumpet. But you couldn't heal my wife...and now she is dead!"
After refusing to apologise to Hope, Nathaniel asks William to meet him at dawn.
8. Captain Poole is quite smitten with Abigail and longs to hear more about her God. Having once met a young preacher who calmed the raging seas in the name of Jesus, Poole is determined not to get on the wrong side of God. This young man was the grandson of which famous pirate captain?

Answer: Edmund Merrick

After witnessing the miraculous ending to William and Nathaniel's duel, Captain Poole is keen to hear more about the love and care of 'Abigail's God'. It is because of this that he takes the survivors to Kingstown, as Abigail agreed to talk with him more along the way.
9. What is the name of Nathaniel's brig which he and Hope plan to meet at Kingstown?

Answer: Illusive Hope

The "Illusive Hope" was named after Miss Hope Westcott.
The "Blue Triumph" was the ship Nathaniel used to buy Hope.
Captain Poole's ship was named the "Enchantress", after his wife.
The "Enforcer" is the name of Dajon Waite's ship in the "Red Siren".
10. After Nathaniel and Poole rescue Hope from Lord Falkland they come across yet another pirate ship. Luckily, this ship is captained by which friend?

Answer: Faith Westcott

Overjoyed at the sight of her sister, Hope is quick to reassure Captain Poole that she means no harm. Both Poole and Gavin are astonished to find that the infamous 'Red Siren' is indeed a woman and Hope's sister at that!
