The character of Sally Brainerd travels to this little town called the Cove in Oregon to try to escape the questioning about her father's death. To find out the truth, Special Agent James Quinlan is sent in undercover to find out the rest of the story. Along the highway an Ice Cream billboard is displayed to try to get some tourist attendance and increased revenue into this small town.

Answer: The String Killer

In this book we are introduced to Lacey Sherlock. She has just entered the FBI academy and has a field exercise with Dillon Savich in which she impresses him with her efforts. While her intentions are true when she joins the FBI, she can't pass up the opportunity to investigate the murder of her older sister when the same type of crime has been committed in Boston.

The killer got the nickname the "String Killer" for his methods used in past killings, including that of Sherlock's sister in San Francisco.

Dillon and Sherlock help out in this nation-wide search for answers as to why someone wants to harm Emma and her mother Molly Santera.

Sam's father, Miles, who is also an FBI agent, comes to town with Dillon and Sherlock to try and figure out this mystery.

Stewart Califano was an Associate Justice of the Supreme Court when he went to do some work and reading at the library within the Supreme Court in Washington D.C. Dillon Savich and Lacey Sherlock are also on the case besides trying to figure out an encounter during their vacation in the Poconos.

Ruth had acquired the map of an old cave and treasure hidden within a book. Dillon Savich and Lacey Sherlock have to track down Moses Grace and Claudia who are on a killing spree which includes them in the 10th book. Sheriff Dixon Noble comes to the aid of Ruth when she is found near his home.

Dillon and Sherlock come to San Francisco to help in the investigation of the murder of Julia's husband, psychic August Ransom.

A side story includes sheriff Dixon Noble solving the look-alike mystery of his deceased wife, Christie Noble.

Rachael Abbott was walking along the road near Parlow Kentucky after her car had just died when she heard the sound of a faltering plane in the distance. She ran to the crashed plane just in time to see the pilot of the plane, Jack Crowne, pull his passenger to safety before the aircraft exploded. Dillon Savich and Lacey Sherlock come to the small town's clinic to check up on their fellow Special Agent and his companion in the plane, Dr Timothy MacLean. Dillon and Sherlock then try to solve the plane crash, what Dr Maclean had said in the past and who exactly was Rachael Abbott-Abercrombie.
