Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. Who killed Susie Salmon?

Answer: George Harvey

Mr. Harvey, Susie's neighbor, lured her into a hole that he had dug in the ground and killed her. He later told her family how sorry he was for their loss.
2. Who did Susie become friends with in her Heaven (when she first arrived there)?

Answer: Holly

Neither Susie nor Holly liked Heaven when they first got there.
3. What was Lindsey's daughter's name?

Answer: Abigail Suzanne

At this time in the book, Susie accepted that she was not on Earth and never would be. She said that Abigail Suzanne was Little Susie to her.
4. When Ruth gave Susie a short time on Earth, while she spent that time in Susie's Heaven, who did Susie spend her time with?

Answer: Ray Singh

Susie was on Earth for a short while in Ruth's body. She spent this time with Ray Singh, the boy who had had a schoolboy crush on her in junior high. She did try calling Buckley on the phone and telling him that it was Susie, his big sister, but her voice faded away.
5. True or False: Susie's body was found.

Answer: False

Her elbow was found, along with several of her personal belongings, such as a Pennsylvania Keystone Charm from her charm bracelet, a winter hat that her mother had made for her, and a cartoon character eraser.
6. How old was Susie when she was killed?

Answer: Fourteen

She was killed in December of 1973, and she constantly watched life on Earth at first. She still watched in the end of the book, but as she said, "I no longer needed to yearn for them and needed them to yearn for me. Though I still would. Though they still would. Always."
7. What did Lindsey find in Susie's old room that was so shocking to her?

Answer: A picture of their mother

Susie took this picture on her eleventh birthday, when she received a camera as a gift. The picture was so shocking because their mother looked so "not there", as Susie explained it. And this picture made her understand why their father called their mother Ocean Eyes.
8. True or False: Grandma Lynn was in Susie's Heaven.

Answer: False

Grandma Lynn did pass away, but Susie never saw her in Heaven. Her dog, Holiday, and her grandfather were there with her, though.
9. When Susie was talking about Samuel and Lindsey in the book, she said that Samuel was Lindsey's ___________________.

Answer: One and Only

Susie compared saying this about Samuel to when she was alive and young, when she and Lindsey played with Barbie Dolls and giggled about love and people's "one and only".
10. And finally, what is the closing sentence in this novel?

Answer: I wish you all a long and happy life.

A woman dug up Susie's old charm bracelet and said to her husband, "This little girl's grown up by now." Susie's response to this was "Almost. Not quite. I wish you all a long and happy life." At this time, if Susie were still alive, she would have been twenty-two years old...but now, she was much more accepting of the fact that she couldn't be on Earth.
