Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. In which month was Susie Salmon killed?

Answer: December

Susie was raped and murdered in a cornfield near her house by her neighbor, George Harvey. The book is narrated by her in heaven, as she looks down upon her loved ones and Mr Harvey as well.
2. How many siblings did Susie have?

Answer: 2

Susie was the oldest of three children. She had a sister, Lindsey, who was a year younger, and a brother, Buckley, who was only a toddler.
3. When Buckley's dad was trying to tell him that Susie was dead, what Monopoly piece did he compare Susie to?

Answer: the shoe

Susie liked to be the shoe when she played Monopoly. Buckley was having a hard time understanding that she wouldn't be coming back...ever.
4. Who was Lindsey's one and only?

Answer: Samuel

Samuel and Lindsey stayed together throughout their high school and college life. At the end, Samuel proposed to Lindsey, and she agreed. Susie was ecstatic up above in heaven. Hal was Samuel's older brother. Ray was Susie's crush, and Len was the police officer in charge of Susie's murder.
5. Who taught Lindsey how to put on her makeup?

Answer: Grandma Lynn

Susie said that when she was alive, she didn't like Grandma Lynn very much, but that she was a big part of helping the family cope with the loss of Susie.
6. Did Mr Harvey see Lindsey that day she broke into his house?

Answer: Yes

Mr Harvey heard Lindsey upstairs, and hurried to see who it was. He saw the back of her soccer jersey with the number 5 flashing. After that whenever he felt threatened, he would have a dream with Lindsey's jersey number 5 "screaming" at him.
7. What did Ray Singh want to be?

Answer: doctor

Ray wanted to be a doctor when he grew up. Susie watched him go away to college. Once when she was watching over him and Ruth, she saw Ruth falling into the sinkhole where her own body had been dumped. Susie fell forward, and all of a sudden, she was tumbling towards Earth and into Ruth's body. She and Ray made love to each other, something that was denied her in her short life.
8. What did Susie think would be the ideal weapon of choice for a murder?

Answer: icicle

There was a camp for gifted kids which Lindsey and Samuel went to. Usually there was a competition to see who could make the best mousetrap. The year Susie was killed, however, the competion was to see who could come up with the best murder weapon. A guy, Artie, who supposedly liked Susie, ended up winning with an icicle as his answer.

Ironically, at the end of the book, an icicle fell on Mr Harvey, knocking him unconscious. Susie said that no one would find him till morning, because snow was falling at the time. I'm assuming that means he died.
9. Who was in the cornfield the night Jack went out there with a baseball bat?

Answer: Clarissa and her boyfriend

Jack saw their flashlight and thought it was Mr Harvey. He was in so much of a rage, he wanted to kill him. Then he realized it was Clarissa. He must have stumbled on top of her, because pretty soon her boyfriend was beating Jack up. He was taken to the hospital. That night Abigail kissed Len, while Lindsey stayed by Jack's side.
10. Samuel proposed to Lindsey.

Answer: True

They were on Hal's motorcycle in the middle of a storm. They ditched the bike and ran to an old house. There, Samuel fell in love with the house and decided he wanted to marry Lindsey and live with her there. He proposed, and she said yes. They got home and told everyone. Ray showed up, and everyone talked for a while. He told them that Ruth's dad had bought the house for renovating. It would be as good as new. What a stroke of luck.
