William Blake was born in Soho, London, England, on November 28, 1757, and passed away on August 12, 1827. Regrettably, similar to numerous poets, writers, and artists, his work remained largely unrecognized until his demise. Not only was he a poet, but he was also a painter and printmaker.
In 1789, William Blake wrote "Songs of Innocence", which included the famous poem "The Lamb". It was part of a collection of 23 poems. In 1794, Blake's "Songs of Experience" collection was published, which included the poem "The Tyger". Also in 1794, Blake merged the two collections of poetry into a book he called "Songs of Experience and Innocence".
William Blake's "The Tyger" gained notoriety during the romantic era after it was included in his "Songs of Experience" collection. "The Tyger" is one of his most well-known works. 'Tyger Tyger, burning bright' is a well-known opening line in English poetry.
You may have wondered why Blake chose to spell "Tyger" instead of "Tiger". The reason was that the old and antiquated spelling of tiger is "tyger". Blake used this phrase to give his poetry a hint of the exotic and ancient. He is attempting to allude to the earth at an earlier time.
So, what is the meaning of the poem "The Tyger"? Well, first off, you could say it's a continuation of the poem "The Lamb". In both of the poems, he is really asking questions about good and evil and why God allows this to happen. The tiger is a big and very powerful animal; it's a killing machine that takes no prisoners. It doesn't always kill just for food; it kills because it can. Anything that stands in its way is in potential danger. The tiger doesn't really have many predators, although their tendency to live alone does leave them vulnerable to attack from some predators (including humans).
So why did God create such a dangerous animal? What is the point when you consider the lamb to be the complete opposite? The lamb is a cute, cuddly little animal that is not dangerous or a threat to anything. Yet, the lamb is very vulnerable and a victim to many other animals. So why did God create two completely different animals - one predatory and one vulnerable? Questions, but really no answers. So we have fear and danger, and we have small and vulnerable. Perhaps there couldn't be love or compassion if there was no risk or danger.
If all creatures in the universe are made by God, then why did He choose to create such a dangerous animal as the tiger? The poem addresses the subject of why evil exists in the world, posed in numerous ways, by utilising the tiger as an example. If God is all-powerful and has created everything, then why is there evil in the world?
The sad thing about William Blake was that he died poor, like many others in the same profession. Because he stood out from all the other artists of the day, he and his work may have been completely forgotten. However, Blake's work was adored, and he was hailed as a true visionary by the Pre-Raphaelite painters, who rose to prominence in the mid-1800s. He has since grown to be a significant figure in British art.
