"American Psycho" was very controversial when it was first published and to some extent still is. In some countries it was sold shrink-wrapped whilst in others it was sold with an "R18" rating. A film version was released in 2000 and starred Christian Bale as Patrick Bateman.

Jack Reacher has an army background and left as a Major after serving 13 years. He grew up on army bases around the world and had a brother called Joe. Reacher appears in at least 16 novel.

Stieg Larsson, a journalist, died before seeing any of his three novels about Salander being published. They have become something of a phenomenon soaring in popularity and have been made into films both in Sweden and in the States. "The Girl With The Dragon Tattoo" was first published under the title "Men Who Hate Women" in Swedish.

"The Women's Murder Club" consists of homicide detective Lindsey Boxer, journalist Cindy Thomas, medical examiner Claire Washburn and district attorney Yuki Castellano. They have solved crimes together in at least nine novels.

The novel was published in the 50s and gives a chilling first-person account of a sociopath's thoughts and actions. It has been made into two films; the first starring Stacy Keach as Lou Ford. In 2010 Casey Affleck took on the same role.
