Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. The Mask
Answer: Jim Carrey
Jim Carrey stars in the 1994 movie "The Mask" as Stanley Ipkiss, a lackluster man who works as a bank clerk who lives alone in an apartment with his dog, Milo. One night, after his car breaks down on a bridge, he discovers a wooden mask that he takes home. Little does he know that this mask will provide him with superhero powers, once he puts it on. Cameron Diaz stars as Tina Carlyle, his love interest in the film.
2. Mrs. Doubtfire
Answer: Robin Williams
"Mrs. Doubtfire" is a 1993 film starring Robin Williams as Daniel Hillard, about a man who goes through a divorce, and loses custody rights to his three children. In order to see his children more often, he calls his ex-wife, Miranda, who is played by Sally Field, after she places a classified ad in the newspaper in search of a babysitter. Daniel disguises himself as an older woman in order to secure the job, which he eventually gets.
The only problem with this is that he must not let anyone, including his children, find out that it's all an act -- that is until they inadvertently find out, and go along with the secret as long as they can.
3. Nothing But Trouble
Answer: Chevy Chase
"Nothing But Trouble" is a 1991 film starring Chevy Chase as Chris Thorne, who meets Diane Lightson, played by Demi Moore, a lawyer he meets at a party he hosted. The two hit it off, and Thorne drives her to Atlantic City the day after the party, where they are stopped in a small town for failing to make a complete stop at a stop sign.
They are then taken to see the judge of the town, a corrupt and decrepit 106 year old named Alvin Valkenheiser, played by Dan Aykroyd, who keeps them there after Thorne offends him.
They then must find a way out, or risk being put to death.
4. Tommy Boy
Answer: Chris Farley
"Tommy Boy" is a 1995 film that stars Chris Farley as Tommy Callahan, a lazy party animal who is the son of a wealthy owner of Callahan Auto, that specializes in brake pads. It takes Tommy seven years to earn his Bachelor's Degree, but once he does, he is offered an executive job by his father.
After his father unexpectantly dies, Tommy has to try to save the company from bankruptcy, but is largely incompetent on his own and unable to complete a deal, so Richard Hayden, played by David Spade, is appointed as his partner and guidance in trying to sell enough brake pads to save the company, which will be no small feat.
5. Jack
Answer: Robin Williams
"Jack" is a 1996 movie that stars Robin Williams as Jack Powell, a boy who, due to a rare disorder known as Werner syndrome, ages much faster than a normal child, and by the age of 10 looks like a 40 year old man. The film chronicles his struggles in finding friends his age, who initially treat him as a freak, but through his charm and sense of humor, is able to make friends.
The film concludes with Jack speaking at his high school graduation as valedictorian, while looking very old. The film has a lot of dark moments, but is full of laughs as well.
6. The Cable Guy
Answer: Jim Carrey
"The Cable Guy" is a 1996 dark comedy that stars Jim Carrey as a mentally unstable and lonely man who was fired by a cable company for stalking clients. Matthew Broderick plays a man named Steven, an architect. After moving into an apartment, Steve's friend recommends he contact Jim Carrey's character, who goes by the alias "Chip Douglas", to set up his cable, and is known for giving clients free premium channels. Once Steven contacts Chip, he soon finds that he made a big mistake, as Chip constantly badgers Steven in search for friendship, and causes havoc in his personal relationships.
Despite all of this, I think it is a pretty funny movie.
7. Vegas Vacation
Answer: Chevy Chase
"Vegas Vacation" is a 1997 film, the fourth from the National Lampoon "Vacation" movies, and stars Chevy Chase, who reprises his role as Clark Griswold. After getting a bonus at work, Clark decides to take one more trip with his family before his two teenage kids move out on their own, this time to Las Vegas.
The trip proves to be highly adventurous for all four family members in their own way. Randy Quaid also reprises his role as Cousin Eddie, who now lives in the Las Vegas desert in a mobile home.
8. Black Sheep
Answer: Chris Farley
"Black Sheep" was released in 1996, and was the last movie that featured both Farley and Spade together. The movie follows Mike Donnelly, played by Farley, who, like in his character in "Tommy Boy", plays an unmotivated and often incompetent man whose brother Al is running for Governor of the state of Washington.
Although he means well, he often disrupts and hampers his brother's campaign, so Steve Dodds, played by Spade is contracted by Al to help Mike campaign for his brother while trying to mitigate Mike's foibles -- an attempt that proves to be problematic.
9. Dumb and Dumber
Answer: Jim Carrey
"Dumb and Dumber" is a 1994 film starring Jim Carrey and Jeff Daniels as Lloyd Christmas and Harry Dunne respectively, two slow-witted roommates who don't live highly productive lives. Lloyd, a limousine chauffeur, drives Mary Swanson, played by Lauren Holly, to the airport.
He becomes infatuated with her, and after he drops her off, he watches her from his car as she enters the airport. He then notices she sits her briefcase down and walks off without it. Thinking it was an accident, he rushes to collect it and give it back to her. Unable to find her, he takes the briefcase back home, and convinces Harry to go on a road trip across the country to find her and deliver the briefcase. The two have no idea that they are being hunted down by two criminals who had kidnapped Mary's husband and were waiting for Mary to drop off the case, which is full of money. Their trip is full of adventure and down right hilarious oftentimes.
10. Kingpin
Answer: Bill Murray
"Kingpin" is a 1996 movie starring Woody Harrelson as Roy Munson, a high school state bowling champion with a lot of promise. He has his bowling career cut short after Ernie McCracken, played by Bill Murray, a bowling professional, convinces him to hustle a group of men out of money during a night of bowling.
After the men find out they have been swindled, they run Roy's hand through the ball return machine, which results in the loss of his bowling hand. This sends Roy into a pit of depression and he turns into an alcoholic for many years after. One day, Roy discovers an Amish man named Ishmael, played by Randy Quaid, bowling and thinks he has great potential.
This encounter proves to advantageous for both Ishmael and Roy, and soon after, Roy is able to find happiness again and quit drinking.
11. Space Jam
Answer: Bill Murray
"Space Jam" is a 1996 film that features basketball superstar Michael Jordan and many members of the cartoon group known as the "Looney Tunes". The Looney Tunes are visited by aliens from a planet in outer space known as the Nerdlucks, and come to kidnap the characters in order to serve as attractions at an amusement park known as "Moron Mountain". Bugs Bunny challenges them to a basketball game, whereby if they lose, the Looney Tunes will go with the aliens. The Nerdlucks agree to the challenge, but then go to National Basketball Association (NBA) games and steal the talents of some of the biggest stars in the word, including Charles Barkley and Patrick Ewing. The Looney Tunes then kidnap Michael Jordan, who is golfing with Bill Murray and ex-NBA star Larry Bird.
Bill Murray plays himself in this movie, although he isn't a central character. He provides comedic relief at the golf course, and he also plays in the basketball game with the Looney Tunes and Michael Jordan against the Nerdlucks.
12. Man of the House
Answer: Chevy Chase
"Man of the House" is a 1995 comedy that stars Jonathan Taylor Thomas as Ben Archer, who lives with his single mother, Sandy (played by Farrah Fawcett) after Ben's father leaves them when Ben is five years old. Ben and Sandy move to Seattle, where Sandy meets Jack Sturges, played by Chevy Chase. Ben is not welcoming of Jack, who he feels is intruding. Jack tries to engage with the boy and is eventually able to get in his good graces.
The film is one of the lesser known movies of Chase's career.
13. Groundhog Day
Answer: Bill Murray
"Groundhog Day" is a 1993 comedy starring Murray as Phil Connors, a television weatherman who lives the same day over and over. This happens to be on February 2nd, as he is covering Punxsutawney Phil's shadow routine in Pennsylvania for his news network.
He is caught in a time loop, and has to confront the same situation again and again. At first he is confused and frightened, and then becomes more agitated and depressed, until he is able to make the best of the situation and try to improve himself, and win over his love interest, Rita, who is played by Andie MacDowell.
14. Billy Madison
Answer: Chris Farley
"Billy Madison" is a 1995 comedy starring Adam Sander in the title role, as a 27 year old man who has no responsibilities due to the fact that his father is the founder of a Fortune 500 hotel company, and Billy does nothing but party and lounge around all day. Billy's father informs him that he is retiring and leaving the company to a man that Billy detests. Billy then wants to take over the company, but his father thinks he is inept, and informs Billy that the only reason he passed his grades in school was through bribery. Billy tells his father that he will go back to school and pass each grade in two weeks, and if he is successful, his father will let him take control.
Chris Farley plays the role of the school bus driver, and although he doesn't have a whole lot of scenes in the movie, he is certainly memorable in the short time he is shown, adding many hilarious moments to the film with his boisterous behavior.
15. Jumanji
Answer: Robin Williams
"Jumanji" is a 1995 fantasy adventure movie about a boy named Alan Parrish, played by Adam Hann-Byrd, who accidentally found a board game at a construction site, and takes it home and plays with a friend. Twenty-six years later, two children find the game in their home attic where Parrish used to live, and begin to play. Parrish, now an adult is extracted from the game, and he is played by Robin Williams.
The game brings to life many dangerous obstacles such as giant mosquitos, a herd of elephants stampeding through the house, and a big-game hunter. In order to stop the chaos, they all must finish the game, which is easier said than done.
