Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. One movie trailer for the film was submitted by amateur film makers and aired alongside the real trailers in Canadian movie theaters. What was its name?

Answer: Hobo with a Shotgun

One of the five faux trailers featured alongside "Planet Terror" and "Death Proof" won a contest held by Robert Rodriguez, that would put some amateur filmmakers in the spotlight. The winners were a couple of guys from Nova Scotia, who had their film preview for "Hobo with a Shotgun" showcased.

Their proposed idea: a hobo takes the law into his own hands, killing criminals and evil-doers with a shotgun along the way.
2. The first film to be shown in the double feature was "Planet Terror". What profession was Cherry Darling interested in?

Answer: Stand-up comedy

On the night of the horrible toxic chemical release, Cherry Darling quit her go-go dancing job in town, in order to put her unusual talents to good use (possibly a stand-up comedy career that Wray finds misfitting). Ironically, after she is attacked by the living dead, she finds herself missing a leg. Wray takes the opportunity to attach a table leg to her thigh, and later, a machine gun.
3. What is the name of the chemical responsible for the undead creatures of "Planet Terror"?

Answer: DC2

At a nearby military base, a businessman named Abby nearly hands sealed containers of DC4 over to Lt. Muldoon, but when a traitorous plot is revealed, he shoots one of the units and releases the gas into the air. It is later revealed that Abby is a scientist who knows the secrets behind the deadly chemical and that all of the military men (including Muldoon) are infected by a controlled source of the bacteria. Muldoon also reveals that he murdered Osama Bin Laden. Both are killed shortly after.
4. What is the name of Dr. Dakota Block's lover, who she was supposed to reunite with in "Planet Terror"?

Answer: Tammy

Another major character in the story is Dr. Dakota Block, whose husband is also a doctor in the nearby hospital. The two are unhappy with their marriage, and Dakota is ready to sneak away with her lesbian lover, Tammy, who was killed by zombies on the way into town.

When her husband finds out, he numbs her and hides her away, but she jumps through a hospital window, steals a car (breaking her numb hand in the process) and takes her son (while fleeing from two angry babysitters who smash her car).

When she heads to her dad's house, her young son accidentally shoots himself in the car and her husband has become another of the undead creatures. Her father later comes to her rescue when she's cornered by her husband, inside the cockpit of an abandoned plane at the military base.
5. To where do the survivors of "Planet Terror" flee in the end of the movie?

Answer: Mexico

Hiding away at JT Hague's steakhouse, the survivors fight off the zombies and relax. Cherry realizes that Wray was going to propose to her and they have a passionate time together. A missing reel breaks up the story, but shortly afterwards, the restaurant is on fire and all of the survivors have gathered inside.

They decide to make their way to the Mexican border and they make their way there, but they're stopped by the military who place them in prison. Cherry and Dakota are taken away, but are saved at the last minute by Wray and Abby.

They all manage to find a helicopter, and with tons of guns, fight off the military undead. Wray is shot and killed, but he says that Cherry is now pregnant with his child. The survivors flee to Mexico, where they live in the ruins of a Mayan city.
6. Intermission! Which of these faux trailers was created by "Shaun of the Dead" director, Edgar Wright?

Answer: Don't

Between the two features, a few different trailers were shown. "Don't" was a confusing trailer about a haunted house, that really didn't give a clear indication of the plot (as a flashback to the American advertising of British horror films in the 1970s). "Machete", created by Robert Rodriguez, is a Mexican exploitation film starring Danny Trejo and Cheech Marin. "Thanksgiving", created by "Hostel" director Eli Roth, is a holiday slasher flick in which 'The Pilgrim' slaughtered victims of a sleepy little town on Thanksgiving weekend. "Werewolf Women of the SS" is Rob Zombie's trailer (starring Sheri Moon Zombie and featuring Nicholas Cage) about Hitler's ultimate plans to create a race of werewolf women.
7. In the second film, "Death Proof", what was the name of the character who was a radio announcer?

Answer: Julia

She's actually named 'Jungle Julia' on her radio show. On her last show, she announced that she and her friends would be hitting the bars and that if a guy came up to her and bought her a drink, and then spoke a poem to one of her girlfriends (Butterfly), she would personally give them a lap dance.

When Butterfly is later approached by Stuntman Mike, Julia says that she already gave up the lap dance. Mike sees right through this and Butterfly volunteers to the plan. The scene involving that event ends up being one of the missing reels.
8. What is on the hood of Stuntman Mike's death-proof car in "Death Proof"?

Answer: A skull and crossbones

After the night at the bar, the girls drive home down a dark road and Stuntman Mike follows closely behind in his stunt car. With the girls drunk and listening to loud music, he passes ahead of them, turns around, and strikes their car at a high speed, violently killing them all. Stuntman Mike is taken to the hospital for some small injuries (the most major of which is a broken thumb).

The police have a feeling that he was responsible, but he is set free.
9. Which of the four girls in Tennessee was forced to stay with the Dodge Challenger owner, in "Death Proof"?

Answer: Lee

In the second half of the story, Stuntman Mike travels to Tennessee where he stalks four new girls while they work on the set of a new movie. Zoe and Kim are stunt people while Abernathy does hair and makeup and Lee is an actress. Zoe has just flown in and one of her goals in America is to buy a Challenger.

They end up finding one owner and taking it for a ride...and on a dangerous stunt.
10. Which girl from "Death Proof" performs the 'Ship's Mast' stunt?

Answer: Zoe

Leaving Lee behind, the other girls drive off to perform the stunt, which involves Zoe holding onto two belts strapped to the doors while resting on the hood of the car. When Stuntman Mike comes along and starts ramming the car, Zoe holds on for her life and at the end of the chase, Mike forces them off the road.

He stops the car and gets out, and Kim is able to shoot him in the arm before he drives away. The girls chase him in their beat up car and cause his Charger to flip. Now injured, they take Mike out of his car and beat him to death.
