Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. When the movie, "Minions: The Rise of Gru" (2022) begins, eleven-year-old Gru is at school, listening to his teacher talk about careers. What does young Gru want to be when he grows up?

Answer: Supervillain

It is Career Day at Gru's school, led by his uninspired teacher. Gru is sitting at his desk, coloring a picture related to his favorite group of villains and obviously daydreaming about them, but when others are asked what they want to be when they grow up, Gru wants to be included. He tells them that he wants to be a supervillain. The class laughs at him, however, as we see in the movie, Gru is ready to begin his career in that capacity.

There is a bit of disagreement about Gru's exact age in the movie. While some sources say that he is twelve, others say that he is eleven.
2. What decade provides the setting for "Minions: The Rise of Gru" (2022)?

Answer: 1970s

The movie cleverly depicts the culture of the 1970s in a variety of ways. The music of the 1970s is inserted throughout the story; for example, when Gru goes to an interview with his favorite supervillain group, Linda Ronstadt's "You're No Good" (1974) is played.

The leader of the group of villains is Belle Bottom, who is appropriate attired in the 1970s fashion, and Gru goes to the movies, where the 1970s icon, "Jaws" (1975), is showing.
3. The Minions have not yet become Gru's henchmen at the beginning of "Minions: The Rise of Gru" (2022).

Answer: False

When Gru arrives at the bus stop after Career Day at school, his Minions are waiting for him, with their crazy disguises and his rocket motorcycle. Residing in the basement of his mother's house, they go with Gru to the movies, sleep with him when they become frightened at night, and try to rescue him when he's in trouble.

Fans of the franchise might also remember that at the end of "Minions" (2015), the Minions become enamored with an even younger Gru, after he foils Scarlet's attempt to steal the Queen's crown for the second time, taking it for himself. The Minions decided at that point that Gru is their new master.
4. Young Gru likes to spend time thinking about his favorite group of villains, and is delighted to receive an invitation to audition to be part of the group. What is the name of the group?

Answer: Vicious 6

Young Gru dreams of joining his favorite group of villains, the Vicious 6, and is overjoyed to receive an invitation from them to audition for their group. Well, he even wears Vicious 6 underwear, as viewers can see when he is getting ready for his interview! His room at his mother's house is decorated with their posters and other merchandise.
5. What business is the front for the supervillains' headquarters? Gru must go there for his audition to join the group.

Answer: Criminal Records

Criminal Records is revealed as the villains' hideout at the beginning of "Minions: The Rise of Gru" (2022), as the group's new leader, Belle Bottom, escapes the pursuit of the Anti-Villian League, and disappears into the store. She has just stolen a map that reveals the location of a precious artifact.

After he receives an invitation for an interview with the group, Gru must report to Criminal Records, where he is shown the way to the interviewee waiting room.
6. According to the movie, "Minions: The Rise of Gru" (2022), who is Gru's favorite villain?

Answer: Wild Knuckles

Along with Belle Bottom and Stronghold, the incorrect choices are other members of the supervillain group. Wild Knuckles, Gru's favorite, is the group's founder, but he is overthrown during their last heist because the others believe he is too old. They also think that he died when they left him behind.

Instead, Wild Knuckles forms another group with new henchmen, but they desert their boss after he reveals that he cannot pay them. He then makes Gru, who he had kidnapped in order to uncover the treasure Gru stole from the villain gang, his apprentice, and the two form a close friendship.
7. Young Gru meets a character, who eventually becomes his associate, when he goes to the villains' lair for his interview to join the group. Who does he meet at the store?

Answer: Dr. Nefario

Dr. Nefario, who has been seen in the other movies of the "Despicable Me" franchise, is the owner of the store where Gru must report for his interview. He is a younger version of himself - mid-30s - according to "Despicable Me Wiki", and gives Gru a gadget that serves him well during his interview.

Although he initially turns down Gru's offer to become his mad scientist, Dr. Nefario apparently has second thoughts after both Gru and the Minions beg him to join their group.
8. Young Gru is rejected by the group of villains mostly because of his age. He retaliates by stealing their newest ill-gotten gain. What was it?

Answer: Zodiac Stone

So the supervillain group had stolen the Zodiac Stone and then double-crossed their leader, believing he was dead. That is why they need to add a new member to the group. When they see Gru, however, they laugh at him, saying that they had invited him for an interview because they thought he was just a tiny man.

Angry about his treatment at the hands of his idols, and taking advantage of a distraction caused by one of the other hopefuls, Gru uses the new weapon that the owner of the store had just given to him, a gadget that shoots a sticky hand out to seize things, and takes the Zodiac Stone for himself. Gru is in big trouble now! His idols become his enemies, and when the former leader of the supervillain group discovers that Gru has taken the stone, he kidnaps Gru; he quickly finds out, however, that Gru no longer has possession of the Zodiac Stone.
9. In "Minions: The Rise of Gru" (2022), a new, never-before featured Minion is introduced. What is his name?

Answer: Otto

Otto is described as being round and chubby, with braces on his teeth. As Gru is being chased by the supervillain group after stealing their precious artifact, he gives the stone to Otto for safekeeping. Otto then makes a huge mistake, trading Gru's precious, newly-won artifact for a pet rock. Gru is furious upon learning about Otto's mishap, and fires all the Minions as his henchmen.

This means Gru must strike out on his own to relocate the artifact, but don't worry! The Minions aren't too far behind him.

After he is kidnapped, Kevin, Bob and Stuart go to rescue him, and Otto begins a long search to reclaim the precious relic.
10. After Gru forms a partnership with his villainous idol, they work together to steal which well known item from the Bank of Evil?

Answer: Mona Lisa

Wild Knuckles is really in a world of hurt after his henchmen leave him. He makes Young Gru do chores around his lair, but Gru saves his idol's life after Wild Knuckles falls into his pool of crocodiles. Then they work together, appearing to be a grandfather and grandson at the Bank of Evil, where they steal the Mona Lisa. Gru is finally beginning to earn the respect of his mentor. Upon their return to the lair, however, Wild Knuckles becomes despondent when he discovers that his former supervillain friends have destroyed his home, and decides to abandon his life of crime, telling Gru to go home.
