Ash and his friends arrive at Michina Town. After battling Kato and Kiko, they explore the ruins of Michina Town, only to encounter spatial distortions. Sheena arrives and calls forth Dialga and Palkia to put an end to the distortions. Sheena is only able to connect with pokemon that are not filled with rage.

When Giratina appears as well, Ash has to calm it down before she can connect with it and finally end its ire at Dialga, which started in "Giratina and the Sky Warrior".

Sheena and her partner, Kevin, take Ash and his friends to a room under Michina Town's ruins. There, they view a model of the time-space axis, which is used to keep track of disruptions in time and space. Sheena explains that as Arceus gets ready to awaken, the energy gathering around it is distorting space.

This brought Dialga's and Palkia's dimensions into contact with each other, causing their original fight, which started in "The Rise of Darkrai".

Answer: meteor storm

Sheena tells the story of Arceus and its first encounter with people. In the distant past, Arceus saved the world by stopping a meteor storm, but nearly lost its life in doing so. A man named Damos helped Arceus regain its strength. Arceus in turn created the Jewel of Life, which contained some of its power, so that Damos could revitalize the then-barren Michina Town. Damos refused to return the jewel as he had promised and attacked Arceus instead. Arceus fought back and went into a sleep to revitalize itself; it returns to pass judgement on humanity.

Answer: "Justice!"

The white energy that Arceus unleashes is called "Justice," though in the video games it is called Judgment and is Arceus' signature move. This is literally the Pokemon version of an angry God passing judgement on humanity, and was probably called "Justice" to avoid its ominous and overtly religious connotations.

Sheena attempts to placate Arceus by returning the Jewel of Life, only to find that it is a forgery, which Arceus destroys. Dialga, Palkia, and Giratina come forth to side with humans, but to little avail.

Answer: in prison

Without any other recourse, Dialga sends Ash, Sheena, Dawn, and Brock to the distant past, a time where pokemon were called "magical creatures". They witness the night that Damos betrayed Arceus, and are then sent back a few hours earlier, where they encounter Marcus. Marcus speaks with Sheena, who warns him about his future, but sends Ash, Dawn, and Brock to a prison for holding.

They encounter Damos in the prison, who explains that Marcus is the one who wants to betray Arceus. Marcus and many others are afraid that Michina Town will return to a wasteland if the Jewel of Life is returned.

Answer: Arceus' plates

When Arceus stopped a meteor storm from destroying Earth, it lost its 16 life plates that gave it invulnerability to most attacks. Damos, seeing this, helped return them to Arceus. Arceus used the plates of ground, water, grass, electricity, and dragon to form the Jewel of Life to help revitalize the land.

He built a shrine to honor Arceus, and promised to return the jewel as requested, on the day of a solar eclipse.

Answer: exploring the ruins and avoiding the conflict

While Ash and his friends relive the past, the battle in the present does not stop. Arceus fights Dialga, Palkia, and Giratina, which can do little to stop it. Jessie, James, and Meowth go through the ruins in the present, seeing the same places that are vibrant in the past.

They do not actually confront Ash and his friends for the duration of the movie. Eventually, they stumble across the real Jewel of Life, but are unable to capitalize on it.

Answer: silver water

Marcus asks Sheena about what happens to them, and adjusts his plans for ambushing Arceus accordingly, preparing silver water to attack Arceus with. In the meantime, a Pichu brings Damos the key to his prison cell, allowing everybody to escape. When Arceus arrives to reclaim the jewel, Marcus attacks it with pokemon and silver water. Damos and Sheena are able to reach out and stop the pokemon from attacking, but the silver water buries Arceus.

Answer: Damos

As Arceus starts dying, Ash and his friends start to disappear, suggesting that history is changing to reflect Arceus' death. However, Damos forces himself to Arceus' rage and connect with its heart; this lets Arceus see that Damos never intended to betray it. Arceus accepts the jewel back and regains its strength, and with the past righted, Ash and his friends return to the present.

Answer: a verdant Michina Town

Ash and his friends return to the present, and history corrects itself around their actions in the past. Arceus is calmed and regains its missing plates, while the Jewel of Life that Team Rocket had disappears. Despite not being supported by the Jewel of Life, Michina Town still became a lush valley; Arceus explains that this happened because Damos and his people dedicated their lives to restoring the land. Damos also left a memorial to the 'future children', dedicating his hopes and wishes to a future that would become ever more beautiful.
