Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. Autism, K-mart, and Toothpicks

Answer: Rain Man

"Rain Man" stars Tom Cruise as Charlie Babbitt and Dustin Hoffman as his older brother Raymond. Ray has autism and has been in a special home, and Charlie doesn't remember him. However, their father died, and left just about everything to Ray, so Charlie goes to see his brother to get what he believes is rightfully his.

He decides to take Ray with him to Los Angeles in hopes of getting custody and the money. Ray is afraid to fly, so they end up driving to LA from Ohio. Ray keeps talking about needing to go to K-mart to buy underwear. Charlie tells him, "K-mart sucks."

While they are at a restaurant, Ray is upset he doesn't have toothpicks. A waitress named Sally Dibbs (Bonnie Hunt) gets some but drops some. Ray keeps saying, "82." Charlie asks him what he's talking about.

Ray: "Toothpicks."
Charlie: "There's a lot more than 82 toothpicks, Ray."
Ray: "246 total."
Charlie: "How many?"
Sally: "250."
Charlie: "Pretty close."
Sally: "There's four left in the box."

The film won four Academy Awards: Mark Johnson, best picture; Barry Levinson, best director; Dustin Hoffman, best actor; Ronald Bass and Barry Morrow, best screenplay- written directly for the screen.
2. Pirate, true love, and R.O.U.S.

Answer: The Princess Bride

"The Princess Bride" stars Robin Wright (Penn) as Buttercup and Cary Elwes as Westley. Westley was a farm boy who became the famous Dread Pirate Roberts.

Back when he was the farm boy, whenever Buttercup would give him orders, he would reply, "As you wish." This was his way of saying, "I love you." Buttercup is kidnapped by Vizzini (Wallace Shawn), who wants to start a war with Prince Humperdinck (Chris Sarandon), who she is being forced to marry. Before Humperdinck can get her, Westley, dressed as the Pirate Roberts rescues her. She doesn't recognize him, and he is upset that she is getting married because they have true love. She pushes him down the hill, thinking he killed Westley, and tells him, "You can die too for all I care!" as he falls, he yells, "As you wish!" She immediately realizes she just pushed her true love away.

R.O.U.S stands for Rodents of Unusual Size. They are one of the terrors in the Fire Swamp. Westley tells Buttercup, "I don't think they exist." He is immediately attacked by one.
3. Tall and Fat, Diving Team, and "Do Not Go Gentle Into That Good Night"

Answer: Back to School

"Back to School" stars Rodney Dangerfield as Thornton Melon.

Thornton Melon never went to college but became rich because he opened a business for bigger people to buy clothes called Tall and Fat.

Thornton's son Jason (Keith Gordon) is a freshman in college. Thornton goes to visit him and learns Jason has been lying to him. He is not doing well at school, his only friend is his roommate, Derek (Robert Downey Jr.), and he's not on the diving team; he's just their towel boy. He wants to drop out, but to prove it's not that hard, Thornton also enrolls in the school.

He talks to the diving coach (M. Emmet Walsh) about Jason and lets him know how good Jason is. The coach agrees to give Jason a chance to be on the team. Later, Chaz (William Zabka), who does not like Jason, tells him that his father bribed the coach to let him on, which isn't true, but Jason believes it seeing as Thornton was in college because he bribed the dean (Ned Beatty).

Thornton cheats at school and even had Kurt Vonnegut, Jr (as himself) write a paper on a book that he wrote. The teacher, Diane (Sally Kellerman), who Thornton is also dating, tells him, "Whoever did write this doesn't know the first thing about Kurt Vonnegut!"

Dr. Philip Barbay (Paxton Whitehead) has disliked Thornton since he enrolled. First, he didn't like that he bribed his way in, then at the building dedication, he threw the dirt on Philip in the car, and then he took Diane, who Philip was dating first. He accuses Thornton of academic dishonesty, and Thornton has to do an oral exam with all his professors. If he fails any part of it, he will be kicked out of school. When Diane gets to her part, she asks him about the poem by Dylan Thomas, "Do Not Go Gentle Into That Good Night." Thornton recites the poem to her and then tells her what it means.
4. Ludicrous speed, Yogurt, and the Schwartz

Answer: Spaceballs

"Spaceballs" stars Bill Pullman as Lone Starr, Mel Brooks as both President Skroob, the president of the Spaceballs and Yogurt ("the wise and all-knowing"), and Rick Moranis as Dark Helmet.

After Lone Starr and Barf (John Candy) rescue Princess Vespa (Daphne Zuniga) and her robot guardian, Dot (Lorene Yarnell Jansson, but voiced by Joan Rivers), Dark Helmet decided the Spaceballs space ship needs to go faster to catch Lone Starr's space ship. Colonel Sandurz (George Wyner) tells everyone to "prepare for light speed," but Dark Helmet tells them to go "right for ludicrous speed." They do so, and because he refused to buckle up, he flies into the front of the spaceship.

Lone Starr, his sidekick Barf, Princess Vespa, and her Dot crash into a desert. While they are there, they meet Yogurt, who helps them, especially Lone Starr. He also shows them the merchandise they have, including a Yogurt doll.

Yogurt gives Lone Starr a ring that Lone Starr believes gives him power called the Schwartz. He fights Dark Helmet near the end in a battle between good and evil. Dark Helmet tricks him, and he loses the ring. Yogurt lets him know, "The Schwartz is in you."
5. Watermelon, "you're not worth it," and corner

Answer: Dirty Dancing

"Dirty Dancing" stars Patrick Swayze as Johnny Castle, a dance instructor, and Jennifer Grey as Francis "Baby" Houseman.

Baby and her family are at the Kellerman's resort in the Catskill Mountains for the summer, where Baby learns about a whole new way of dancing. When she goes to explore, she runs into Billy (Neal Jones). He has some watermelons that he's taking inside where the others are and hands her one.
She meets Johnny, who questions why Billy brought her, and she tells him, "I carried a watermelon."

Baby and Johnny quickly fall in love and are sleeping together. Robbie (Max Cantor), a waiter at the resort, comments that he picked the wrong girl (he was dating Baby's sister Lisa (Jane Brucker) but also sleeps around. Robbie says, "Well, it looks like I picked the wrong sister. Johnny gets angry, and he and Robbie fight, but then Johnny tells him, "you're not worth it," and walks away.

At the end of the movie, Johnny, who was fired earlier, returns to do the last dance as he has always done. He stops at the table where the Houseman family is sitting. Baby is in the corner, so he tells them, "Nobody puts Baby in the corner." He then takes her up on stage to do the final dance with him.

Fun fact: Patrick Swayze did not like the line "nobody puts Baby in the corner" and tried to get them to remove it from the script.
6. Bench, run, and shrimp

Answer: Forrest Gump

Forrest Gump stars Tom Hanks as the title character and Robin Wright as Jenny.

Forrest spends much of the movie on a bench, waiting for a bus. From this bench, he tells anyone who happens to be sitting there as well about his life story. The people come and go at the stop, but he keeps telling it.

When Forrest was little, he had leg braces because, according to his doctor, "his back's as crooked as a politician." Forrest meets Jenny when they start school because they ride the bus together. Some older boys pick on Forrest because of his leg braces and try to hurt him. Jenny yells, "Run, Forrest, run!" As he runs, his braces break off, and Forrest loves running.

When Forrest is in Vietnam, he meets Bubba (Mykelti Williamson), also serving. Bubba tells Forrest about his dream of owning a shrimp boat, and they talk about owning it together. Bubba, sadly, is killed in action, but Forrest goes on to get a shrimp boat and becomes the owner of Bubba Gump Shrimp.
7. Whale, boy, and wall

Answer: Free Willy

"Free Willy" was a movie starring Keiko as Willy and Jason James Richter as Jesse.

Jesse learns that Willy will be killed and gets help to save the whale's life. They get Willy out into the water, but he will only be free if he jumps the wall.
8. Two dogs, a snowstorm, and wolves

Answer: Look Who's Talking Now

"Look Who's Talking Now" is the third movie in the "Look Who's Talking Trilogy." It stars Kirstie Alley as Mollie Ubriacco and John Travolta as James Ubriacco.

It is close to Christmas, and Mikey (David Gallagher) keeps begging his parents for a dog. They tell him they will get him a dog one day, but they don't have a big enough apartment right now. Mollie gets fired from her job as an accountant and takes a temporary job as one of Santa's elves at the mall. James brings the kids in to see Santa (Ron Gabriel) and tells them their mother is friends with him. Unfortunately, Mikey sees Santa after hours because James is busy with Julie (Tabitha Lupien), who cried when she saw Santa and now thinks Santa is mad at her. Santa is a shady fellow, and Mikey is now traumatized by seeing him and realizing Santa is not real. The other three try to make him feel better, the adults explain Santa is real but has helpers, and the one at the mall was a helper. Not knowing what else to do, the adults discuss getting him a dog. James was hired to work for a woman named Samantha (Lysette Anthony) as a pilot. She learns about their need for a dog and sends her poodle Daphne (voiced by Diane Keaton) to the house with all her pedigree things. Meanwhile, James takes Mikey to the pound, where they rescue Rocks, a mutt (voiced by Danny DeVito), a dog Mikey saw before when Rocks was still small. So, now they have two dogs when they never wanted even one.

Samantha gets James to fly her and conveniently gets stuck at a cabin in the woods during a snowstorm. Samantha tricks James into thinking he can't get out, nor can he call anyone because the phone line is dead (he later learns she just pulled it from the wall).

Mollie and the children go to find James, but the car breaks down in the woods before they find the cabin during the snowstorm. Mollie gets out of the vehicle, and a wolf appears. Rocks seeing Mollie in trouble, jumps out of the window and tells the wolf to leave her alone "unless you want to get spayed the hard way." Mollie can get back into the car, and Rocks fights the wolf, who runs away.
9. Basement, headbanging, alternate ending

Answer: Wayne's World

"Wayne's World" stars Mike Myers as Wayne Campbell and Dana Carvey as his sidekick Garth Algar. It was initially a skit on "Saturday Night Live."

Wayne hosts a TV show from his mother's basement in Aurora, Illinois.

In one of the most famous scenes in the movie, Wayne is driving a car with Garth in the passenger seat and some guys in the back. "Bohemian Rhapsody" by Queen comes on the radio, and they headbang to the song. Fun fact: Dana Carvey did not know all the words, unlike the others who sang along, so his mouth just moved around to pretend he was singing.

At the end of the movie, Wayne's girlfriend, Cassandra (Tia Carrere), dumps him, and Wayne decides he doesn't like that, so they do alternative endings. First, they do a "Scooby Doo" ending. Then they do the happy ending. In both alternative endings, Wayne and Cassandra end up together.
10. Laughter, doctor, and excessive happiness

Answer: Patch Adams

"Patch Adams" stars Robin Williams as the title character. It is based on the true story of Hunter "Patch" Adams.

Patch Adams checks himself into a mental hospital after having suicidal thoughts. While there, he discovers that laughter and humor help patients more than psych drugs. Adams decides to become a doctor and help people. He enrolls in the Medical College of Virginia (now called VCU School of Medicine).

While there, he butts heads with the scientists and doctors because of his unique views. Mitch (Philip Seymour Hoffman) tells Dean Walcott (Bob Gunton) that Patch cheats on his exams because he gets excellent grades yet never studies. Walcott kicks Patch out of school and claims Patch suffers from "excessive happiness."
