Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. Ding donger, Novel, and wax item that you can light up.

Answer: Bell Book and Candle

Kim Novak is a witch and she is trying to woo Jimmy Stewart. She puts together this potion, but can she get him to fall in love with her? I remember the end of this movie when she sheds a tear. Such a sad ending. You have to watch the movie to get the entire gist of it. Jack Lemmon plays the role of Nicky, and as always, his comedy comes rolling out. My score, 4 stars.
2. The city of brotherly love, tale.

Answer: The Philadelphia Story

Katharine Hepburn in caught between Cary Grant and Jimmy Stewart in this cute story. Kate is set to get married. Being the big socialite that she is, Jimmy Stewart came to get the "story" for the press. But who should show, but Kate's ex-husband, played by Cary Grant. Kate does a fantastic job of being in total control.

James Stewart picked up the Oscar for Best Actor, but Katharine lost out to Ginger Rogers that year. Great movie, I rate this my highest score, 5 stars.
3. A warlock or witch 'of' the letters after N and Y. What movie is this that features a girl from Kansas?

Answer: The Wizard of Oz

This is one of those movies that are for the "young at heart". I've seen this movies so many times in my lifetime. I've watched it with my mother and my children. It just goes to show, there is "no place like home".

There were so many role changes in this movie. At one time Shirley Temple wanted the role of Dorothy. Then Buddy Ebsen was supposed to play the Tin Man. W.C. Fields and Gale Sondergaard were also offered roles. Luckily the perfect cast was selected and a classic film it was. Thank you L. Frank Baum for the wonderful stories! I rate this movie my highest rating of 5 stars.
4. Not girls, not city. What movie is this that features Father Flanagan?

Answer: Boys Town

"Boys Town" was such an inspiring movie. Mickey Rooney and Spencer Tracy teamed up for this beautiful tale of a Father and his "troubled boys." This movie really hits the spot, especially when Pee Wee is hit by a vehicle. Your heart really goes out to Whitey, played by Mickey Rooney.

The movie was up for the Oscar that year for Best Picture, but the award went to "You Can't Take It with You" instead.
5. Daddy of the lady getting married.

Answer: Father of the Bride

Spencer Tracy and Steve Martin both played the role of "Mr. Banks" to the hilt. Spencer Tracy picked up an Oscar nomination for his role in the original movie. If you think planning a wedding is easy, it's not! In the movie with Steve Martin, his daughter comes back to kiss her dad and say "thank you", that is the ultimate ending. That was the best!
6. Fluffy thing in bed that you lay your head on, chit chat.

Answer: Pillow Talk

This is by far the best Doris Day movie in my opinion. Doris Day and Rock Hudson are so great in this movie. But Thelma Ritter pulled out as the ultimate star in this movie. Thelma played the drunken Alma, who loved to listen in to Brad's party line. I never knew that Doris Day could cry for hours on end like that. What an actress!
7. A person that comes from the second largest continent, not the king. What movie is this that stars Katharine Hepburn?

Answer: African Queen

John Huston directed this great movie that teams up Katharine Hepburn and Humphrey Bogart. Humphrey Bogart won his only Oscar for his role as Charlie in this movie. I thought it was cute when Charlie was imitating the animals, the hippos and the monkeys. Not only did dear old Rosie laugh, but so did Linkan.
8. The, Jesus' dad, papa. Give me an answer I can't refuse.

Answer: The Godfather

An outstanding series of movies created by Mario Puzo. Marlon Brando had us all fearing his character as Don Corleone. This is not a guy that I want to meet in a dark alley. James Caan, Al Pacino and Robert Duvall all were nominated for Supporting Actor, but Joel Grey won for his role with Liza in the movie "Cabaret".
9. Four or more families renting homes in one building. What Oscar winning film is this with Jack Lemmon?

Answer: The Apartment

This is one of my top ten movies of all time. I love the movie, filmwise that is. It seems that there were many references to "wise." The way this crumbles, cookie-wise or decency-wise or even Kubelikewise. C.C. Baxter loved using the 'wise' references, Baxter-wise that is. Just a wonderful movie right to the end when Kubelik says to Baxter, "shut up and deal".
10. Morning meal at the store on Fifth Avenue. Holly, do you know the name of this movie?

Answer: Breakfast at Tiffanys

"Breakfast at Tiffany's" was one of Audrey Hepburn's better roles. I actually preferred her in her Eliza role in "My Fair Lady". Audrey picked up the role of Holly with such style though. I didn't think I would like the team of Audrey and George, but they really work well together. Rumor has it that Marilyn Monroe was supposed to play Holly, but opted against it. Hepburn went on to earn an Oscar nomination, but failed to pick up the Oscar for her role.

Thanks for playing the quiz, I hope you enjoyed putting on your thinking cap, quiz-wise that is.
