Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. Baby and her family are in a car.

In the opening scene, Baby (Jennifer Grey) and her sister, Lisa (Jane Brucker) were in the backseat as the Houseman Family was headed to Kellerman's Resort up in the Catskills of New York State. Baby narrated in the opening explaining that it was the summer of 1963. She said, "I never thought I'd meet a guy as great as my dad."
2. Baby is sawed in half.

The magician who sawed Baby in half was played by 'Cousin Brucie' Morrow.
He asked her if she had Blue Cross (an insurance company) before he sawed her in half. This caused the people at the resort to laugh.
3. "I carried a watermelon."

Baby saw a sign that said, "Staff Quarters No Guest Please." She ignored the sign and went up to see what they were doing. She saw Billy (Neal Jones) on the way up. He handed her a watermelon because he was carrying three of them. He asked her if she could keep it a secret if he took her to the building because she was not allowed there.

When Johnny (Patrick Swayze) saw her he said to Billy, "Yo, cuz, what's she doing here?" Billy explained that he brought her, and Baby responded, "I carried a watermelon." She then disgustedly repeated under her breath, "I carried a watermelon."
4. Neil tells Baby he is the "catch of the county".

Lonny Prince played Neil in "Dirty Dancing."

Neil and Baby took a walk together. Neil had a huge ego because he is the grandson of Kellerman, and therefore born into wealth. He told her that he is known as "the catch of the county," and explained how he took a girl from a lifeguard. The lifeguard asked her what Neil had and according to Neil she replied, "Two hotels."
5. Baby pours water on Robbie

Max Cantor played Robbie in "Dirty Dancing."

In the previous scene, Penny (Cynthia Rhode) needed money for an abortion. She said she was "knocked up by Robbie, the creep." Baby told her to talk to Robbie because he had the money, but Penny told her that Robbie already knew.

Baby took it upon herself to try, and talk to Robbie. However, Robbie implied that Penny slept around, so the baby might not be his. He told her, "Some people count, and some people don't." Then he handed her a copy of a book called, "The Fountainhead" (written by Ayn Rand) and told her to read it, but return it since he made notes (the book had sexually explicit material according to Google).

Baby took the water pitcher, poured it on his pants and said, "You make me sick, stay away from me; stay away from my sister, or I'll have you fired."
6. Johnny begins teaching Baby to dance the Mambo

Penny couldn't dance with Johnny since she was having an abortion because Baby got the money from her father. She didn't tell her father what the money was for, however. Penny urged Johnny to get another partner, but he said there wasn't anyone. Baby chimed in that maybe one of the other people who work there could do it, but he informed her they couldn't because "everyone works around here."

He then, jokingly asked her, "What, do you wanna do it?" Penny and Billy suggested that was a good idea. Johnny adamantly declared, "She cannot do it, she cannot do it."

And then in this scene, Baby was seen with Johnny. He was teaching her how to dance.
7. Johnny and Baby practice lifts in the water

Baby complained that Johnny wouldn't show her how to do the lifts. So, he took her into some nature area nearby with fields, a river with a log over it that acts like a bridge, and a small lake. On the log, he worked with her on balance.

They then went to the fields to practice the lifts, but she couldn't do them. He told her, "The best place to practice lifts is in the water." So, they went into the lake. In the water the first time, she did the lift but didn't hold, and they both fell into the water. The second time, she successfully did it.
8. Johnny and Baby dance at the Sheldrake.

Baby and Johnny danced the mambo at the Sheldrake, (another retreat about 20 minutes away). Johnny had to continuously remind her of which way to go throughout the dance. He told her to get ready for the lift; she ran toward him, but he knew it would not work. He stopped her, and they just continued with the dance.
9. Baby confesses to Johnny that she is scared of everything

Penny's abortion went badly, and Baby got her father, Dr. Houseman (Jerry Orbach) to help Penny. Dr. Houseman assumed Johnny was the father of Penny's aborted baby, and told his daughter to stay away from "those people."

She did not listen to her father and went to Johnny's cabin later that night and apologized to him for how her father treated him. As they were talking, Johnny told her that she wasn't scared of anything. She corrected him and said, "Me, I'm scared of everything. I'm scared of what I saw, I'm scared of what I did, of who I am, and most of all, I'm scared of walking out of this room, and never feeling the rest of my whole life, the way I feel when I'm with you."

This was the climax of the movie when the two got together as more than dance partners.
10. "Nobody puts Baby in the corner."

Johnny has been fired from the resort. They originally were going to fire him for stealing, but Baby gave him an alibi. She explained to Mr. Kellerman (Jack Weston), Neil, and her father that Johnny was in his room that night, and she knew because she was with him. They found the real thieves, but Johnny was fired for fraternizing with the guests.

As the Kellerman staff were singing, "Kellerman's Anthem," Johnny walked into the building. His friends were excited to see him return as he walked over to the Houseman's table. He looked at Dr. Houseman after seeing Baby in the corner and told him, "Nobody puts Baby in the corner." He then brought her up on the stage to dance the final dance of the season like he always did. They danced to "I've Had the Time of My Life."
