Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. Adam

Answer: Cain and Abel

Cain and Abel were two of three of Adam and Eve's sons mentioned by name in the Bible. Cain, when he killed Abel, committed the first recorded murder in the Bible (Genesis 4). Seth is the third of Adam's sons mentioned in the Bible (Genesis 4:25). Adam had other sons and daughters besides these three (Genesis 5:4).
2. Abraham

Answer: Isaac

The Bible mentions that Abraham had eight sons. Abraham's first son was Ishmael by Hagar, his wife's Egyptian maid (Genesis 16:1-4). Abraham's second son was Isaac who was born to his wife Sarah (Genesis 21:1-3). Isaac was the son God had promised Abraham, according to Genesis 15:4-5.

After Sarah died, Abraham had six sons with Keturah and with another concubine. They were named Zimran, Jokshan, Medan, Midian, Ishbak, and Shuah (Genesis 25:1, 6). Keturah's sons became the fathers of Arabian tribes living east of Israel.
3. Jacob (Israel)

Answer: Joseph and Benjamin

Jacob was the son of Isaac and the twin brother of Esau. God later changed his name to Israel. He had twelve sons and at least one daughter by four different women. The first four of Jacob's children belonged to his wife Leah. Jacob was tricked into marrying Leah by his father-in-law Laban. She later bore him two more sons and a daughter (seven children total). The last two of Jacob's children belonged to Rachel (his second wife, whom he loved and who was Leah's sister). In between he had two sons with Bilhah (Rachel's maid) and two sons with Zilpah (Leah's maid).
The sons Rachel gave birth to were named Benjamín and Joseph.
From this dysfunctional family Christians can trace the human ancestry of Jesus. They believe God blessed this family because God made and kept a promise to Abraham.
4. David

Answer: Solomon

King David has nineteen sons and one daughter mentioned by name in the Bible. Additionally he had other children with his concubines. David had three sons die before he died: the unnamed baby born to Bathsheba, Absalom (who was killed attempting to take over his father's throne) and Amnon (who was killed by Absalom). David's son Solomon succeeded him as king and later built the temple of the Lord that David had dreamed of building. Ultimately, Jesus Christ was born as a descendant of David (Matthew 1:1), providing a fulfillment of prophecy and bestowing the greatest possible honor to King David.
5. Solomon

Answer: Rehoboam

Solomon had over 700 wives and 300 concubines. Most scholars believe that many of these arrangements were for political purposes. However, the Bible states that Solomon's wives turned him away from Israel's God and led to him worshipping idols (I Kings 11:10). No one knows how many children Solomon had. The only children explicitly mentioned in the Bible are his son Rehoboam, who succeeded him on the throne, and his two daughters Basemath and Taphath.
6. Zachariah

Answer: John the Baptist

Zachariah was the father of John the Baptist. In Luke 1 we read about the story surrounding the birth of John the Baptist. Zachariah was a priest in the Temple in Jerusalem. While serving in the Temple he is told by an angel that his elderly wife, Elizabeth, was going to give birth to a son who would prepare the way for the ministry of Jesus.

At first he does not believe the angel and is made to be unable to speak until the promised son is born.
7. Noah

Answer: Ham, Shem and Japeth

Before God sent a flood to destroy the world, the Bible says Noah had three sons, Shem, Ham, and Japheth (Genesis 5:32). Even though Shem was the second-born son, he is always mentioned first when the three sons are listed together. Japheth was the oldest (Genesis 10:21), and Ham was the youngest (Genesis 9:24).

Shem was the ancestor of the sons of Eber (Genesis 10:21). This is important because the word Eber is the origin of the Hebrew word for "Hebrew." This may explain why Shem's name was mentioned first. Often names were listed in order of importance, not age.

The Bible says that Noah also had daughters.
8. Jairus

Answer: Unnamed daughter

According to the Bible, Jairus was a synagogue ruler who approached Jesus to heal the man's twelve year old daughter (Mark 5:22-43). In the account Jesus stops to help a woman who had been suffering from "bleeding" for twelve years. While he is healing her, Jairus' daughter dies but Jesus goes on to raise her from the dead.

The event reveals to believers that Jesus meets the needs of all people regardless of their status. In this passage he helps both the ruler and the "outcast" (Leviticus 15:25-27).
9. Zebedee

Answer: James and John

Zebedee owned a fishing business and was the father of two of Jesus' first followers, James and John. Zebedee was possibly a wealthy man as he was known to have hired hands in his fishing business (Mark 1:20). The fact that James and John quickly followed Jesus could imply that they were familiar with Jesus' teachings before they were called to be his disciples and that Zebedee was supportive of their decision. Zebedee's wife, Salome, was also a follower of Jesus (Matthew 27:56).
10. King Saul

Answer: Jonathan and Michal

Saul was Israel's first king. Two of his children were his son Jonathan and his daughter Michal. Over the years a jealous and bitter Saul grew to hate David, a popular rival who would eventually replace him as king. Saul attempted, on several occasions, to kill David.

More than once David's life was spared because of the efforts of his best friend Jonathan (Saul's son) and his wife Michal (Saul's daughter).
