Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. Here are four statements about Moses. Which one is incorrect?

Answer: He was the first person to enter 'The Promised Land'.

Although he led the Israelites for forty years after their exodus out of Egypt, Moses did not live to enter Canaan, or 'The Promised Land'. According to Deuteronomy 34:1-2, Moses died on Mount Nebo, just prior to the Israelites being led into 'The Promised Land' by Joshua.

Exodus 2 tells of Moses killing an unnamed Egyptian who was attacking an Israelite with the end result he fled to Midian.

Exodus 4:14 and Exodus 15:20 confirms his brother was Aaron and his sister was Miriam.

According to Numbers 12:1 in the KJV and NKJV, Moses married an Ethiopian woman. (The NIV describes his wife as a Cushite rather than an Ethiopian.) Scripture goes to to tell of Miriam and Aaron grumbling about her.
2. Here are four statements about Aaron. Which one is incorrect?

Answer: He was aflicted with leprosy only to be cleansed by the LORD.

According to Scripture, Aaron was not afflicted with leprosy. His sister, Miriam, however, was afflicted with the disease for a brief period, as per Numbers 12.

In Psalm 106:16, Aaron is described as "the saint of the LORD" in the KJV and the NKJV. In the NIV, it uses the words "consecrated to the Lord".

Aaron died prior to the Israelites entering Canaan, or 'The Promised Land." His death is reported in Numbers 20:22-29, with the passage saying he died on Mount Hor.

Details about Aaron making a gold calf for the Israelites to worship are found in Exodus 32.
3. Here are four statements about Joshua. Which one is incorrect?

Answer: He was the first judge of Israel.

Joshua was not the first judge of Israel. That honor went to Othniel, as per Judges 3.

Exodus 32:17 indicates Joshua likely accompanied Moses part of the way up the mountain when Moses received the two tablets of the Testimony from the LORD. Notes in the NKJV Study Bible explains things this way: "While Moses was alone with God, it appears Joshua was nearby. From his base, he was the first to hear the raucous worship of the golden calf and report that startling news to Moses."

Deuteronomy 31:23 tells of Moses inaugurating Joshua to serve as his replacement.

Meanwhile, Joshua 13 tells of Joshua dividing the land of Canaan between the various Israelite tribes.
4. Here are four statements about Caleb. Which one is incorrect?

Answer: He was a ferocious fighter, killing 600 Canaanites in one day.

There is no indication in Scripture about Caleb's fighting abilities. And if he was a ferocious fighter, there is no mention of him killing 600 Canaanites in one day.

However, Scripture does state he was one of twelve spies sent by Moses into Canaan and he and Joshua, son of Nun, were the only ones to return with a recommendation to proceed into Canaan and occupy the land. (Numbers 13 and 14.) As a result, Caleb is often associated with Joshua, and vice-versa.
5. Here are four statements about Samson. Which one is incorrect?

Answer: He fathered six sons.

There is no mention in Scripture about Samson being the father of any children, let alone the father of six sons.

According to Judges 13-16, Samson was a judge of Israel, spent time with a prostitute, and was betrayed by Delilah, his Philistine lover. The story of Samson and Delilah is one of the best known stories in the Bible and has even been the subject of rock and roll songs. For example, Wikipedia reports Neil Sedaka wrote a song titled 'Run, Samson, Run' which claims "there's a little of Delilah in each and every gal."
6. Here are four statements about Othniel. Which one is incorrect?

Answer: He is perhaps best known for being an adversary of Deborah.

There is no suggestion in Scripture about any connection between Othniel and Deborah apart from the fact they were the first and fourth judges of Israel respectively.

According to Judges 3, he was the first judge of Israel and he was the younger brother of Caleb. And according to Joshua 15:16-17 and Judges 1:12-13 he married Achsah, the daughter of Caleb.
7. Here are four statements about Deborah. Which one is incorrect?

Answer: She killed Sisera by driving a tent peg through his head.

It was Jael, not Deborah who killed Sisera by driving a tent peg though his head, as per Judges 4:17-22.

In Judges 4:4 in the NKJV, Deborah is described as a "prophetess." (In the NIV, she is described as a "prophet.") The same verse states Lapidoth was her husband.

There is no other female judge mentioned in the Hebrew Bible, or the Old Testament of the English Bible.
8. Here are four statements about Samuel. Which one is incorrect?

Answer: He commited suicide after being injured in battle.

There is no mention in Scripture about Samuel being injured in battle, let alone committing suicide.

According to 1 Samuel 1 he was the son of Elkanah and Hannah with the following chapter telling of Samuel being trained by Eli, the father of two wicked sons.

1 Samuel 16 tells of Samuel anointing David, preparing him to become king, replacing Saul. (For a brief while after Saul's death, Israel was led by Saul's son Ish-bosheth while David ruled over Judah. Ish-bosheth would end up being assassinated and David would rule over all Israel, as per 2 Samuel 4 and 5.)
9. Here are four statements about Saul. Which one is incorrect?

Answer: His daughter Abigail was a wife of David.

Yes, one of Saul's daughters was indeed married to David. However, her name was Michal, not Abigail, as per 2 Samuel 18:17-30. And yes, David did have another wife called Abigail but she was not the daughter of Saul.

Saul was the first king of Israel, as per 1 Samuel 10. Meanwhile 1 Samuel 18 through to 31 tells of Saul being so jealous of David, he ended up devoting much of his latter life trying to kill him. 1 Samuel 31 tells of Saul being wounded in battle and he ended up committing suicide, setting things in motion for David to become king.
10. Here are four statements about David. Which one is incorrect?

Answer: He was rebuked by Elisha the prophet.

David was rebuked by Nathan, the prophet, not by Elisha, as per 2 Kings 12. According to Scripture, Nathan rebuked David for committing adultery with Bathsheba and then for setting the wheels in motion to have her husband Uriah killed.

1 Samuel 17 provides details of David killing Goliath.

Details about Solomon replacing David as king are found in 1 Kings 1 and 2.

Two of David's wives had been previously married. They were Bathsheba and Abigail. (2 Samuel 12 tells of Bathsheba being previously married to Uriah and 1 Samuel 25 tells of Abigail being married to Nabal.)
