Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. Out of the four names below, which one is most associated with Joseph?

Answer: Asenath

Asenath was Joseph's wife. According to Genesis 46:20, Joseph and Asenath were the parents to two boys -- Manasseh and Ephraim.

The name of Asenath's father was Potipherah, as per the KJV. However, not much is known about him as he is mentioned in passing reference. Genesis 41:45 states he was the priest of On. (In the NKJV, his name is spelled Poti-Pherah and in the NIV it's Potiphera.)
2. Out of the four names below, which one is associated with being 'the mother of Adonijah'?

Answer: Haggith

Haggith is the correct answer. The wife of David and the mother of Adonijah almost became mother of the king, which would have made her the most powerful woman in the land. According to the first chapter of 1 Kings, Adonijah attempted to become king when David was elderly and frail. However, Adonijah was thwarted by Bathsheba, the mother of Solomon, and by Nathan the prophet. As a result, Solomon became king rather than Adonijah and Bathsheba became the most powerful woman in the land rather than Haggith.

Little is known about Haggith as she is mentioned only in passing reference in Scripture. Her name appears five times in the Old Testament, and in each case Adonijah is referred to as the son of Haggith.
3. Out of the four names below, which one is associated with being 'murdered'?

Answer: Uriah

Uriah was the first husband of Bathsheba, David's most famous wife. After David learned Bathsheba was pregnant through an adulterous affair he had with her, he ended up conspiring to have Uriah murdered. The adultery took place while Uriah, a soldier, was in battle.

After plotting and scheming, David eventually ordered Uriah to be placed in the front line where the fighting was fiercest and then had all the men withdraw, as per 2 Samuel 11:15. True to plan, Uriah was killed.
4. Out of the four names below, which one is associated with 'being struck dead by the LORD'?

Answer: Uzzah

Uzzah is the correct answer. The sixth chapter of Samuel tells of David and 30,000 "able young men of Israel" taking the Ark of God from Baalah to Jerusalem. According to the fifth verse, the Israelites were ecstatic with "David and all Israel were celebrating with all their might before the LORD, with castanets, harps, lyres, timbrels, sistrums and cymbals." Then things took a dramatic turn.

2 Samuel 6:6-7, in the NIV Bible, states: "When they came to the threshing floor of Nakon, Uzzah reached out and took hold of the Ark of God, because the oxen stumbled. The LORD's anger burned against Uzzah because of his irreverent act; therefore God struck him down, and he died there beside the Ark of God."
5. Out of the four names below, which one is associated with 'dying on the top of a mountain'?

Answer: Aaron

Aaron is the correct answer. According to Numbers 33:39, Aaron was 123 years old when he died on Mount Hor. Scripture states he died on the first day of the fifth month of the 40th year after the Israelites came out of Egypt. After his death, Moses removed Aaron's garments and put them on his son Eleazar. According to Numbers 20:22-30, in the NIV Bible, "when the whole community learned that Aaron had died, all the Israelites mourned for him thirty days." Aaron, of course, was the brother of Moses and Miriam.

He was instrumental in leading the Israelites out of Egypt to the Promised Land. Moses and Aaron were assisted by their sister Miriam.
6. Out of the four names below, which one is associated with being 'falsely accused of drunkenness'?

Answer: Hannah

Hannah prayed so fervently to the LORD for a son that Eli, the high priest who also doubled as judge of Israel, thought she was drunk.

1 Samuel 1:12-18, in the NKJV Bible, tells of the occasion: "And it happened, as she continued praying before the LORD, that Eli watched her mouth. Now Hannah spoke in her heart; only her lips moved, but her voice was not heard. Therefore Eli thought she was drunk. So Eli said to her, 'How long will you be drunk? Put your wine away from you!'
But Hannah answered and said, 'No, my lord, I am a woman of sorrowful spirit. I have drunk neither wine nor intoxicating drink, but have poured out my soul before the LORD. Do not consider your maidservant a wicked woman, for out of the abundance of my complaint and grief I have spoken until now.'
Then Eli answered and said, 'Go in peace, and the God of Israel grant your petition which you have asked of Him.'
And she said, 'Let your maidservant find favor in your sight.' So the woman went her way and ate, and her face was no longer sad."
7. Out of the four names below, which one is associated with 'stalks of flax'?

Answer: Rahab

Scripture states the king of Jericho received word Rahab was harboring Israelite spies. However, when the king sent emissaries to her house, they didn't find any evidence of the spies -- they were hidden under stalks of flax.

Joshua 2:4-6, tells of Rahab responding to the king's representatives: "'Yes, the men came to me, but I did not know where they had come from. At dusk, when it was time to close the city gate, they left. I don't know which way they went. Go after them quickly. You may catch up with them.' (But she had taken them up to the roof and hidden them under the stalks of flax she had laid out on the roof.) So the men set out in pursuit of the spies on the road that leads to the fords of the Jordan, and as soon as the pursuers had gone out, the gate was shut."

The story of Rahab is one of the better known stories in the Old Testament. The story can be found in the second and sixth chapters of Joshua. Because she harbored two spies from the Israelite camp, Rahab and her family were spared when Joshua and his armed men succeeded in making the walls of Jericho fall down, just as the LORD told them in Joshua 6:2-5. Incidentally, Rahab's name appears in Matthew 1:5 as part of the genealogy of Jesus and she is also saluted in Hebrews 11:31 for her "faith".
8. Out of the four names below, which one is associated with 'five daughters and no sons'?

Answer: Zelophehad

According to Scripture, Zelophehad was the father of five daughters, but no sons. After his death, Zelophehad's daughters appealed to Moses, arguing that daughters should inherit their father's estate when there isn't a son, as per Numbers 27:1-11.

The names of Zelophehad's daughters were Mahlah, Noah, Hoglah, Milkah and Tirzah, as per Numbers 27:1.

According to Christiananswers.net, the name Zelophehad means 'first-born'. He was of the tribe of Manasseh and of the family of Gilead.
9. Out of the four names below, which one is associated with 'the last book in the Old Testament' and 'the last book in the Twelve Prophets section of the Hebrew Bible'?

Answer: Malachi

Malachi is the correct answer. In addition to being the last book of the Minor Prophets, it's also the last book of the Christian Old Testament.

Notes in the NKJV Study Bible state Malachi means 'My Messenger'. The notes go on to state "the final book of the Old Testament is about the error of forgetting about the love of God."
10. Out of the four names below, which one is associated with 'defying the Pharaoh'?

Answer: Puah

Puah is the correct answer. According to Scripture, she was a midwife who refused to obey a command of the Pharaoh stating all Hebrew males should be killed.

Exodus 1:15-21, in the NKJV, states: "Then the king of Egypt spoke to the Hebrew midwives, of whom the name of one was Shiphrah and the name of the other Puah; and he said, 'When you do the duties of a midwife for the Hebrew women, and see them on the birthstools, if it is a son, then you shall kill him; but if it is a daughter, then she shall live.' But the midwives feared God, and did not do as the king of Egypt commanded them, but saved the male children alive. So the king of Egypt called for the midwives and said to them, 'Why have you done this thing, and saved the male children alive?' And the midwives said to Pharaoh, 'Because the Hebrew women are not like the Egyptian women; for they are lively and give birth before the midwives come to them.' Therefore God dealt well with the midwives, and the people multiplied and grew very mighty. And so it was, because the midwives feared God, that He provided households for them."
