Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
Answer:
The Apostle Paul , also known as Saul of Tarsus, was a Jewish zealot who actively sought to destroy Christianity until his conversion (described in Acts 9). After his conversion, God specifically sent him as a missionary to the Gentiles.
According to the book of Acts and his letters, Paul overcame severe persecution during the missionary journeys he took throughout Asia and Europe. Paul was the first Christian missionary to go to Europe when God sent him to Philippi (Acts 16). Many of Paul's writings were written to churches he founded. In these letters he encouraged them to remain faithful in the face of problems, flee legalism, and exhorted them to stay united in the face of cultural clashes between the Jewish and Gentile Christians.
Paul is credited with writing thirteen or fourteen, depending on whether you attribute Hebrews to him, of the twenty-seven New Testament books. Four of his letters were considered "prison epistles" because he wrote them while imprisoned. They are Ephesians, Philippians, Colossians and Philemon. In those four books he stressed the importance of unity (Ephesians), having joy in trials (Philippian), the deity of Jesus (Colossians) and the issue of slavery (Philemon). I and II Timothy and Titus are called "Pastoral Epistles" because Paul wrote them to young preachers instructing them on how to lead their congregation. Other New Testament books attributed to Paul include I Corinthians, and I and II Thessalonians. Many scholars dispute Paul being the author of Hebrews.
The incorrect answers were written by Luke (Acts of the Apostles) and John (Revelation). The books of Jude and James are widely considered to have been written by James and Jude the brothers of Jesus. The priest Ezra is considered the author of the Old Testament book of I Chronicles.
