Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. Which Bible passage states "For God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten son, that whoever believes in Him should not perish, but have everlasting life."?

Answer: John 3:16

This is generally credited as being one of the most famous Bible passages, that Christian and non-Christian recognise, telling those who believe of the One who loves us with an everlasting love.
2. No matter where you look in the Bible, which is one of the ailments that Jesus did NOT cure?

Answer: Stuttering

Nowhere in the Bible does it mention Jesus ever curing someone who stuttered. For leprosy, look in Matthew 8:2-4 or in Mark 1:40-45. For blindness, look in Matthew 9:27-31 or Matthew 20:29-34. For the account of Jesus curing the withered hand, look in Matthew 12:9-14.
3. How many Herods are there mentioned by name in the New Testament?

Answer: Four

While the most infamous Herod is probably Herod the Great, who attempted to murder Jesus while he was still an infant (Matthew 2:13,16,) there are a few others in the New Testament. The second Herod is Herod Antipas (son of Herod the Great), who ridiculed Jesus and had John the Baptist beheaded (Luke 23: 6-12, Matthew 14:1-12.) The third is Herod Agrippa I (grandson of Herod the Great), who had James executed (Acts 12:1-2) and who was eaten to death by worms (Acts 21:23.) The fourth and final Herod was Herod Agrippa II (son of Herod Agrippa I), whom Paul made his defence to at Caesarea (Acts 25:13-26:32.).

Herod the Great had two other sons, who are mentioned but not named in the Bible: Herod Archelaus and Herod Philip shared the kingdom of Herod the Great with Herod Antipas on their father's death.
4. Who were the "Sons of Thunder"?

Answer: John and James

James and John were the sons of Zebedee, whom Jesus gave the name "Boanerges", meaning "Sons of Thunder". (Mark 3:17)
5. There are a couple of myths of Christmas, which, despite the fact that they're not mentioned in the Bible, have slipped into the traditional Christmas story. Which occurrence is NOT mentioned in the Bible?

Answer: Mary rode a donkey to Bethlehem

There are a few myths that have slipped into the Christmas story. For a full account of Jesus' birth, refer to the books of Matthew and Luke.
6. While Mary was pregnant with Jesus, her cousin, Elizabeth, was also with child. What would Elizabeth's child come to be named?

Answer: John

Elizabeth was considered well past child bearing age (Luke 1:36,) yet she still gave birth to this child, whom she named John (Luke 1:57-63.) He grew to be John the Baptist.
7. Who is credited with writing Acts?

Answer: Luke

While the Apostle Paul is generally credited with writing most of the "non-name" books of the New Testament, is was actually Luke who wrote Acts.
8. Who is credited as being the first Christian martyr?

Answer: St Stephen

St Stephen was martyred not too long after Jesus crucifixion (c. 34-35 A.D.) In Acts 6-7, it tells us how Stephen was tried by the Sanhedrin for blasphemy against Moses and God, and how he was eventually stoned to death by an infuriated crowd.
9. Who was the father of John, and the husband of Elizabeth (Mary's cousin)?

Answer: Zacharias

When Elizabeth gave birth to the baby boy, people had thought that she would name the child after his father, Zacharias. However, she chose to name him John (Luke 1:57-63). He grew up to become John the Baptist.
10. What was Peter's occupation before becoming a disciple of Jesus?

Answer: Fisherman

According to the Scriptures, Peter (originally Simon) and his brother Andrew, were the first two disciples of Jesus, and Jesus said to them, "Come with Me, and I will make you fishermen of men," (Matthew 4:18-20.)
