Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
Answer:
Paul was under house arrest in Rome. People were allowed to enter his house to see him, but he was not allowed to leave. In Philemon 1:1, Paul was writing a letter to be given to Philemon concerning someone they both knew.
In Philemon 1:2, Apphia and Archippus are Philemon's wife and son, respectively. Paul's letter addressed them as well as the people that gather in Philemon's home to have church services. Archippus is mentioned in Colossians as well as Philemon, but Apphia is only mentioned in Philemon.
The slave Onesimus ran way from his owner, Philemon, and went to Rome where he found Paul. In Philemon 1:10, Paul is letting Philemon know that he is writing the letter on behalf of Onesimus who was saved while in Rome with Paul.
Paul wanted Philemon to know in Philemon 1:15 that Onesimus had been saved while he was with Paul in Rome and that he would not only be returning to Colosse as Philemon's slave, but as a fellow brother in Christ.
In the continuation of his letter in Philemon 1:18, Paul promised Philemon that he would pay back any money or goods that Onesimus took after leaving Colosse for Rome.
Paul wants Philemon to know that he is the one writing the letter in Philemon 1:21 and that he hopes and prays that Philemon will do what Paul has asked concerning Onesimus, a new brother in Christ.
In Philemon 1:22, Paul finished his letter by telling Philemon to have a room prepared for him as Paul hopes he will be able to leave house arrest soon and return to Colosse
Paul ended his letter in Philemon 1:23-25 with a valediction from him as well as Epaphras who is also under house arrest in Rome. Paul also wanted to send valedictions from his friends who have been working with him outside of his house arrest: Marcus, Luke, Demas and Aristarchus.
The end of the book of Philemon as well as Paul's letter ended with Amen.
