Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
Answer:

A phobia is an intense and often irrational fear of something. The word comes from the Greek word "phobos" which means fear. Many phobias are tied to psychiatric disorders or anxiety. People can also develop a phobia after a negative childhood experience such as getting bitten by a dog. People with a phobia will have negative reactions if faced with the object of their fear. This can include panic attacks, nausea, fainting, accelerated heart rate, sweating, etc.

Acrophobia is the fear of heights and one of the most common phobias. The name is derived from the Greek word "ákron" which means "summit."

Arachnophobia is the fear of arachnids such as spiders and scorpions. It is one of the more well-known and common phobias.

Bibliophobia is the fear of books or reading. The name comes from the word "biblíon" which is Greek for book.

Coulrophobia is the fear of clowns. There are many creepy and evil clowns in pop culture that play on this fear. Examples are Pennywise in the book and movie adaptions of "It" or the Joker in DC Comics.

Emetophobia is the fear of vomiting. This includes the act of vomiting themselves or seeing someone else throw up. Emetophobia can go hand in hand with some eating disorders.

Galeophobia is the fear of sharks. Many movies, dating back to "Jaws" in 1975, fuel this fear.

Globophobia is the fear of balloons. This can be related to the sound of them popping as well as their texture or smell. The name comes from the Greek word "globus" meaning sphere.

Heliophobia is the fear of the sun or sunlight. In Greek mythology, Helios is the god of the sun.

Ranidaphobia is the fear of frogs specifically and batrachophobia is the fear of all amphibians. Ranidae is the Latin name for the family classification of frogs.

Tetraphobia is the fear of the number four. This phobia is common in some East Asia countries where there is a superstition that the number four is associated with death. This is because in some languages, the word for four sounds similar to the word for death.
