Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. Occipital bone

Answer: Head

You'll find the occipital bone at the base of the skull and the back of the cranium. It's a flat bone that connects the two.
2. Temporal bones

Answer: Head

The sides and base of the skull contain the temporal bones. They safeguard the inner ear's structures. The inside of the temporal bones is where the bottom seven cranial nerves travel. The inside of the temporal bone is also where the major blood arteries leading to and from the brain travel.
3. Zygomatic bone

Answer: Head

The zygomatic bone, also known as the cheekbone, is one of the pair of bones that form the cheek and part of the eye socket.
4. Maxilla

Answer: Head

The maxilla is the upper jaw. The maxilla has no joints, so it's in a fixed position just above the top row of front teeth. The mandible, which is located just under the maxilla, makes up the remainder of the jaw.
5. Scaphoid bone

Answer: Hand

The scaphoid is one of the smallest bones in the wrist. Situated directly above the radius on the thumb side of the wrist, the scaphoid bone is one of the carpal bones. The wrist joint's stability and range of motion depend on this bone.
6. Hamate bone

Answer: Hand

One of the eight carpal bones that make up the wrist joint is the hamate bone. The medial side of the wrist contains this wedge-shaped bone, which has a hook-like protrusion. Another name for the hamate bone is the unciform bone.
7. Capitate bone

Answer: Hand

The capitate bone is a bone in the wrist that is situated near the distal end of the ulna and radius bones, in the middle of the carpal bone region. The hands and feet have the most bones in the human body. There are 27 bones in the human hand. The largest bone in the wrist is the capitate bone, which lies between the trapezoid and the hamate.
8. Lunate bone

Answer: Hand

The hand contains a crescent-shaped carpal bone called the lunate. The proximal row of carpal bones contains the lunate. Did you know each hand has 48 nerves, 34 muscles, and 30 arteries?. Each wrist has eight bones, while the palm of the hand has five bones that link up with your fingers and thumb.
9. Calcaneus

Answer: Foot

The calcaneus bone, also known as the heel, is the longest bone in the foot. The bone is at the rear of the foot. Being the longest bone in the foot, it has many muscles and ligaments. The calcaneus has three main areas: the posterior aspect, the middle aspect, and the anterior aspect. In layman's terms, these areas support the structure of the heel.
10. Cuboid bone

Answer: Foot

There are seven tarsal bones in the foot; one such bone is called the cuboid bone. The cuboid bone is just about cubical in shape and is situated in the midfoot region on the outside of the foot. It is critical to the foot because not only does it provide stability, it also facilitates sufficient weight distribution.

The tibialis posterior muscle is the only muscle attached to the cuboid bone.
11. Cuneiform bone

Answer: Foot

Each foot has three cuneiform bones that are in the shape of a wedge. The first bone is known as the medial cuneiform, the second is known as the intermediate, and the third is known as the lateral cuneiform. The largest bone out of the three is the medial cuneiform and is located on the medial side of the foot. All the cuneiform bones together support the arch of the foot.
12. Talus

Answer: Foot

The talus bone, also referred to as the ankle bone, is a bone that is part of the tarsus group of bones in the foot. The talus connects the two lower leg bones, the tibia and the thinner fibula. This area of the foot is very strong as it has to support the whole weight of a human.
