Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. What was the final result of this series?

Answer: 2-1 Australia

Game one (MCG) was seen as a whitewash with Australia steam-rolling India to a comfortable win. Game two (SCG) was considered the most controversial and brought about Australia's 16th consecutive win, equaling the world record. The run of consecutive test match wins was brought to an end, one short of the world record (17) again, when India won the 3rd Test in Perth at the WACA, as they had done with Steve Waugh's side in 2001.

The final Test was much anticipated, but sadly ended in a draw.
2. Who claimed the controverisal catch in the SCG Test to claim the wicket of Sourav Ganguly?

Answer: Michael Clarke

Prior to this catch, the captains had decided to take the word of the fielder to such disputed catches as this one. However, seeing that this method did not produce the desired effect of sportsmanship, the method was abandoned and technology stepped in.
3. Which cricketer was to retire on finishing the last Test in Adelaide?

Answer: Adam Gilchrist

This retirement shocked almost everyone in the cricketing world as no one expected this result from such a great ambassador of the sport.
4. Who broke a world record in this series and what was that record?

Answer: Adam Gilchrist- 414 test dismissals

This was overtaken from the previous record holder (Mark Boucher)with 413 test dismissals. It was soon to be that Gilchrist would retire at the conclusion of the series.
5. How many hundreds were scored in the Adelaide Test?

Answer: 5

First Innings- Sachin Tendulkar (153), Ricky Ponting (140), Michael Clarke (118), Matthew Hayden (103). Second Innings- Virender Sehwag (151).
6. Who bowled the final over in Sydney to claim the final three Indian wickets?

Answer: Michael Clarke

Clarke struck with his first ball of the over and was on a hat-trick by ball three after claiming Harbhajan Singh and RP Singh. Ishant Sharma was to face the next four balls, but Clarke once again struck on ball five to win the Test for Australia.
7. By how many runs did India lead at the end of their first innings in the SCG Test.

Answer: 69

The first innings total was greatly due to the "Little Master", who blasted 154 not out.
8. Which two umpires officiated the Sydney and Melbourne Tests?

Answer: Steve Bucknor and Mark Benson

Following a series of odd decisions, it was to be made that Asad Rauf and Rudy Koertzen would officiate in the final two Tests.
9. Which two umpires officiated for the Perth and Adelaide Test matches?

Answer: Billy Bowden and Asad Rauf

Following complaints from the Indian Cricket team and the BCCI, Billy Bowden and Asad Rauf were appointed for the final two Tests.
10. By how many runs did Australia beat India by in the first Test at the MCG?

Answer: 337

This match was easily won by the Australians, highly due to a severe lack of preparation by the Indian Cricket team, who arrived in Australia just days before the start of the series, having only one practice game.
