Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. Third Test at the WACA: On the Third Day in Australia's Second Innings, Adam Gilchrist broke his form slump by scoring the second fastest Test Century ever. How many balls did it take for Gilly to notch up his ton?

Answer: 57

The record was held by Sir Vivien Richards at 56 balls. Gilchrist was 50 runs off 41 balls at one point, then moved to 93 off 52. He looked set to break the record, but Matthew Hoggard and Steven Harmison began bowling the ball so wide that Gilchrist could not reach the ball.

In one over, Gilchrist hit Monty Panesar for three sixes and a four, and each of the sixes went well back into the crowd. The last one went into the second tier of the stands!
2. Third Test at the WACA: Who was the last English wicket to fall, which gave the Ashes back to Australia?

Answer: Monty Panesar

The wicket fell two balls after the luncheon break on Day Five. Shane Warne bowled his stock ball, which Panesar tried to hit out of the ground for six and it bowled him. Warne ran to Andrew Symonds, jumped into his arms, and the team huddled around to congratulate each other.
3. Fourth Test at the MCG: Who did Shane Warne dismiss on Day One to claim his 700th Test Match wicket?

Answer: Andrew Strauss

Strauss had just made his 50 and for once in his career was looking comfortable against Shane Warne. However, Warne managed to get his man by lobbing up a big leggie. Strauss' eyes lit up and he tried to hit the ball over mid-wicket. But Warne deceived him in flight and the ball dipped and spun sharpley, bowling Strauss. Warne was given a standing ovation by his home crowd of just over 89,000 people.
4. Fourth Test at the MCG: At the end of Day One, who did Australia send in as a night watchman?

Answer: Brett Lee

Brett Lee was sent in to try and protect Ricky Ponting from having to bat that night. Lee received one of the balls of the series from Andrew Flintoff and was out first ball, and Ponting had to go in to bat anyway.
5. Fourth Test at the MCG: Which English player taunted Andrew Symonds for being a "specialist fieldsman" when he came into bat in Australia's First Innings?

Answer: Kevin Pietersen

Pietersen made these comments because up until this Test, Symonds had a very ordinary set of statistics. Pietersen found out the hard way that you do not taunt Andrew Symonds, because he went on to make his maiden Test century. He scored 156 off 220 balls in 327 minutes. His innings included 1 six and 15 fours.
6. Fourth Test at the MCG: How many LBW's were given in England's Second Innings?

Answer: 4

Bell, Flintoff, Mahmood, and Harmison were all given out LBW in England's second innings. Warne got 2, Clark got 1, and McGrath got 1.
7. Fifth Test at the SCG: Who was England's top scorer in the First Innings?

Answer: Andrew Flintoff

Flintoff played his best innings of the summer, making 89 off 142 balls in 195 minutes with 1 six and 11 fours.
8. Fifth Test at the SCG: Who was Australia's top scorer in their First Innings?

Answer: Shane Warne

Shane Warne (playing in his last test) looked set to finally get a Test Match century, but with Glenn McGrath as his only ally, he played a rash shot and was out stumped for 71 off 65 balls in 114 minutes. Along the way, he hit 2 sixes and 9 fours.
9. Fifth Test at the SCG: Who was Glenn McGrath's last wicket in Test Match cricket in England's Second Innings?

Answer: James Andreson

McGrath bowled a slower ball which deceived Andersen all ends up. He hit the ball straight up in the air to Mike Hussey at mid-on and that was that.
10. Fifth Test at the SCG: Who did the English give a Guard of Honour as he walked onto the ground for his final innings in Test Match Cricket in Australia's Second Innings?

Answer: Justin Langer

Langer was treated to this honour by the English players at the start of the second innings for Australia. He shook hands with Flintoff at the end of the guard, and all the players got into position to resume play.
