Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. Which actress originated the role of Taylor Thompson in July of 2008?

Answer: Beth Ehlers

Beth Ehlers came to "AMC" in July of 2008 to originate the character of Taylor Thompson. Prior to joining "AMC", Ehlers appeared on the CBS soap opera, "Guiding Light", for many years. She was nominated, twice, for a Daytime Emmy for Outstanding Younger Lead Actress in a Drama Series in 1992 and 1993.

She lost to Tricia Cast of "The Young and the Restless" in 1992 and to Heather Tom of "The Young and the Restless" in 1993. She was nominated for a Daytime Emmy for Outstanding Supporting Actress in a Drama Series in 1999 and 2002.

She lost to Sharon Case of "The Young and the Restless" in 1999 and to Crystal Chappell of "Guiding Light" in 2002. She was nominated for a Daytime Emmy for Outstanding Lead Actress in a Drama Series in 2006 but lost to Kim Zimmer of "Guiding Light."
2. What was Taylor doing when we first saw her?

Answer: Jogging

Taylor was jogging when we first came upon her. She bumped into Jake Martin while she jogged and Jake continued to see her jogging in the same location. Jake and Taylor had a short fling but they broke up when Taylor's presumed dead fiance, Brot, came back from the dead and to Pine Valley.
3. Taylor's last name was originally supposed to be what?

Answer: McBride

Taylor was the first "AMC" character created by Charles Pratt, Jr. Pratt was, initially, going to have her be named "Taylor McBride" but he changed her name to "Taylor Thompson" since he wrote for a character on "Melrose Place" named Taylor McBride (Lisa Rinna portrayed Taylor McBride on "Melrose Place") and did not want to confuse the audience.
4. When Frankie introduced Taylor to his parents in August of 2008, he told them her rank in the Army was what?

Answer: Lieutenant

Taylor came to town to give Frankie a medal for his bravery in Iraq. Frankie told his parents, Jesse and Angie, that Lieutenant Taylor Thompson served in the same unit he did in Iraq. Frankie asked Taylor if she would be going back to Iraq and she said yes.
5. In the Fall of 2008, Taylor started showing signs of what mental disorder?

Answer: Post Traumatic Stress Disorder

Taylor started to have flashbacks of when she was in Iraq and this unsettled her. There were certain triggers that caused her to flash back to what happened overseas when she fought in Iraq. As is the case with many veterans of the Armed Forces, Taylor showed signs and symptoms of Post Traumatic Stress Disorder. PTSD is a mental disorder, characterized by the person having nightmares and flashbacks via certain triggers to a certain trauma in his/her life that unsettles them. People can suffer from PTSD in many ways, such as from surviving a rape, being involved in a natural catastrophe, witnessing a serious crime, childhood abuse, etc.

A common misconception is that all people who have PTSD get it from serving in combat. An example of a trigger associated with PTSD is if someone that was involved in Hurricane Katrina sees a weather report of a hurricane striking a state like Florida. Seeing that kind of weather report is likely to cause that person to have nightmares and flashbacks of the devastation of Hurricane Katrina.
6. Taylor was prescribed what drug in September of 2008 to treat anxiety?

Answer: Valium

Taylor's doctor prescribed her Valium (also known as Diazepam) since she had some anxiety. Taylor was determined to not let this stop her from going back to Iraq and serving her country. Taylor was very adamant about returning to Iraq to save lives and do her country proud.
7. Taylor suffered paralysis in October of 2008 when who accidentally pushed her down the stairs?

Answer: Zach Slater

Zach's wife, Kendall, was injured in one of many tornadoes that struck Pine Valley in October of 2008. Jake operated on Kendall when the power was out in the hospital and this caused Kendall to have severe complications. During an argument with Jake, Zach accidentally pushed Taylor down a flight of stairs.

She became paralyzed from the waist down but, eventually, regained sensation in her legs.
8. Taylor thought her fiance, Brot, had died in Iraq but he turned up alive in November of 2008. What is Brot's last name?

Answer: Monroe

Taylor was relieved when her fiance, Brot Monroe, turned up alive in Pine Valley in November of 2008. At that time, Taylor dated Jake Martin but Jake told Brot he would not stand in his way to reclaim Taylor. Brot and Taylor resumed their romance. JR Martinez originated the role of Brot Monroe. Martinez is a real life Iraq War veteran.
9. The actress who originated the role of Taylor was born in what borough of New York City?

Answer: Queens

Beth Ehlers was born on July 23rd, 1967, in Queens, New York. She was married to Bill Parsons from 1991 to 1992. She married Matt Christian on March 22nd, 1996. She briefly attended Syracuse University.
10. What persuaded Taylor to join the military?

Answer: The September 11th attacks

Although it has been hinted that Taylor enlisted due to having many members of her family serve in the military, she explained, on one episode, that she did not want to enlist but seeing the 9/11 attacks changed her mind. While she served in Iraq, she met Brot Monroe and they dated. Brot proposed marriage to Taylor and she accepted.

However, Brot was presumed dead in an explosion in Iraq but he resurfaced in November of 2008 (see question eight for more).
