Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. Emma
Answer: Leroy
Emma Leroy is Oscar's wife and the mother of series protagonist Brent Leroy. Oscar and Emma were the former owners of Corner Gas before retiring and selling it to their son.
Emma was played by Janet Wright in the entire six-season run of the show.
She's the town's part-time driver's license tester.
2. Wanda
Answer: Dollard
Wanda Dollard is Brent's friend and only employee at Corner Gas. She is also the town know-it-all. Played by Nancy Robertson, who is the real-life wife of show creator Brent Butt, she appeared in every episode of the show.
Wanda is one of the few residents of Dog River who has gone to college. She holds a degree in linguistics with a minor in comparative religion but took classes in many other subjects as well.
3. Davis
Answer: Quinton
Davis Quinton is the elder police officer in Dog River. Lorne Cardinal played the role for six years, serving as a friend and mentor to Karen Pelly, as well as comic relief in many scenes.
Davis plays defense for the town's hockey team, the Dog River Riverdogs, and wears jersey #5.
4. Lacey
Answer: Burrows
Lacey inherited the local restaurant, The Ruby, when her aunt Ruby died prior to the show's pilot.
She's from the "big city", and portrayed as an outsider in many episodes. Gabrielle Miller played the character in all 107 episodes she appeared in.
5. Hank
Answer: Yarbo
Fred Ewanuick played the character in all six seasons. Hank was Bent's dim-witted best friend from childhood and still hangs around both Corner Gas and The Ruby throughout the series.
It is implied that Hank may be the father of Tanner Dollard (Wanda's son); when approached about this, she laughs it off, but doesn't actually deny it.
6. Karen
Answer: Pelly
Officer Karen Pelly is the junior police officer in Dog River.
She is portrayed by Tara Spencer-Nairn. She's an excellent cook, and often tries new hobbies throughout the show.
7. Kirk
Answer: Berkley
Kirk, played by Ian Black, appeared in the first two seasons. He is a turkey farmer.
One of my favorite episodes is when Hank buys $2,000 worth of Kirk Berkley's Turkey Jerky, to sell at his corn stand, just before the stand burns down.
8. Fitzy
Answer: Fitzgerald
He is Dog River's mayor, it is never revealed if his real name is Fitzy Fitzgerald, or if the first name is a nickname. But on the door to his office, and every time he is mentioned, he is only called "Fitzy", or the full Fitzy Fitzgerald.
He was played by Cavan Cunningham.
9. Wendy
Answer: Carlyle
Played by Carol Gay Bell, Wendy appeared in seasons five and six.
Her last name was revealed in season five when Hank found her old driver's license under the deck at The Ruby.
10. Wes
Answer: Humboldt
Wes is the captain of a slow pitch softball team. He is also the owner of Dog River's liquor store/insurance company.
Just before Brent's birthday party, Hank jokes that he thought Wes died or moved to Winnipeg. This is a reference to Mike O'Brien, who portrays Wes, being busy portraying Lorne on the show "Less Than Kind," which is set in Winnipeg.
