Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. Daemon Targaryen attacks the army of Prince Drahar, 'The Crabfeeder', with his dragon Caraxes. Where does Drahar's army retreat to?

Answer: Caves

With the backing of the Triarchy, Drahar's army was fortified on the beach of Bloodstone against the armies of Corlys Velaryon and Daemon Targaryen. While Daemon and Caraxes were able to eliminate some of their enemies with dragon fire, most of Drahar's men were able to retreat into the caves.

The caves provided shelter against the fire of Caraxes and it would be difficult for Corlys and Daemon's armies to launch a frontal assault.
2. For what event does King Viserys hold a grand celebration with visitors from many prominent families?

Answer: Second name day of his son Aegon

Episode three of "House of the Dragon" takes place about three years after episode two. In this time Viserys and his wife, Alicent Hightower, have had a son and Alicent is pregnant with their second child. Viserys holds a Grand Hunt in the Kingswood in honor of his son Aegon's second birthday which they refer to as his second name day.

It is expected that soon after Viserys will name Aegon as heir to the throne.
3. King Viserys's new Master of Ships, Tyland Lannister, implores the king to take what action that he had resisted doing for over three years?

Answer: Send troops and ships to Bloodstone to aid Daemon and Corlys

Fearing that it may cause a long war, King Viserys did not send troops or ships to the Stepstones as had been recommended by both his brother Daemon and his prior Master of Ships Corlys three years prior. Without the king's backing, Corlys and Daemon go to battle Prince Drahar's army on the island of Bloodstone. Three years later they were still battling and King Viserys was still resistant to send reinforcements.
4. King Viserys Targaryen tries to betroth his daughter Rhaenyra to Jason Lannister. What does Jason tell Rhaenyra he can build for her at his castle on Casterly Rock?

Answer: A dragonpit

Rhaenyra is 17 years old and has no interest in getting married for strategic purposes but her father Viserys tells her that it is part of their duty to protect the family and marry strategically. Unfortunately for him, Rhaenyra finds Jason Lannister to prideful even if he is extremely wealthy and would build a dragonpit for her to keep her dragon Syrax. Eventually Viserys tells Rhaenyra that he expects her to marry but will let her choose her spouse rather than be arranged to someone.
5. After Rhaenyra Targaryen rides away from the celebration arranged by her father, her and Ser Criston Cole end up getting ambushed. What type of animal that would later kill Robert Baratheon attacks Rhaenyra and Criston?

Answer: Boar

The celebration in the Kingswood for Aegon's second name day is intended to be a boar hunt. However, Rhaenyra and Criston weren't seeking out the boar when it attacked them while they were sitting next to a fire at nighttime. They are eventually able to kill the boar with their swords and they drag it back to the camp.
6. An animal believed to be a 'regal portent' is seen in the Kingswood and hunted by the Viserys and his men. Also called a stag, what was this animal that was also the heraldic badge of King Richard II of England?

Answer: White hart

Before the Targaryens and their dragons arrived in Westeros, the white hart (male deer) was seen as the symbol of royalty. The hand of the king, Otto Hightower, tells King Viserys that the white hart being spotted in the Kingswood is a favorable omen. Particularly that it was spotted on the second name day of Aegon, the king's son and Otto's grandson is seen as a sign that Aegon should be named as heir to the throne. Viserys and his men do not end up actually finding the white hart but rather Rhaenyra Targaryen and Ser Criston Cole spot it and leave it alone.
7. What does Daemon Targaryen do that leads the Triarchy army of Prince Drahar out of their cover?

Answer: He feigns surrendering.

Frustrated that his brother, King Viserys, intends to send 10 ships and 2,000 men to assist with the fighting on Bloodstone, Daemon Targaryen takes a huge gamble. He goes up on a hill and plants a white flag near the cave where Prince Drahar, 'The Crabfeeder', and his army are sheltered. Drahar sends several of his men to retrieve Daemon but rather than surrender Daemon ends up killing these men and he draws additional Triarchy soldiers out from the cave.
8. Who helps save Daemon Targaryen by riding the dragon Seasmoke and taking out the archers of the Triarchy?

Answer: Laenor Velaryon

Laenor Velaryon is the son of Lord Corlys Velaryon and Princess Rhaenys Targaryen. The Targaryens and their direct descendants are the last remaining dragonriders. The Triarchy archers shoot numerous arrows at Daemon Targaryen as he sprints toward the cave occupied by Prince Drahar.

After he gets hit Daemon takes cover and is pinned down until Laenor and his dragon Seasmoke dispose of the Triarchy archers. At the same time the army of Corlys and Vaemond Velaryon battles the soldiers of the Triarchy that have come out of the cave.
9. During the fighting on Bloodstone, the leader of the Triarchy army, Prince Drahar (The Crabfeeder), is killed. Who is seen dragging the corpse of Prince Drahar?

Answer: Daemon Targaryen

In spite of being shot in the chest with an arrow, Daemon Targaryen forges ahead to the cave where Prince Drahar is located. Drahar's death is not shown on camera, but his severed corpse is shown being dragged by Daemon. After three years of fighting against Drahar and his army and eventually beating them when the king neglected to send support, Daemon is now in a position to be looked at as a hero of war.
10. Born in 1982, what actor who had previously starred as the Eleventh Doctor on "Doctor Who" played the part of Prince Daemon Targaryen on "House of the Dragon"?

Answer: Matt Smith

Matt Smith was born in Northampton, England and his breakout role was as the Eleventh Doctor from 2010 to 2013 on the hit sci-fi show "Doctor Who". Smith would later appear as Prince Philip on the Netflix show "The Crown" and as Milo in the film "Morbius".

He was picked to play the part of the 'rogue prince' Daemon Targaryen in December 2020 with the first episode of "House of the Dragon" airing in August 2022.
