Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. No quiz about Yuu would be complete (or could even begin) without mentioning the one character with whom she is inextricably linked. Who is Yuu's eternal rival?

Answer: Eimi Ooba

While Yuu gets along well with most characters (including Mizuki, Aya, and Chisa,) she finds herself constantly bickering with her former friend Eimi. Some of their antagonism is ordinary rivalry between doujin artists; however, a large part is due to a difference in manga philosophy: Eimi believes that manga is good if and only if it is popular, while Yuu considers quality and having fun to be more important than sales.

This rivalry is a constant element in both series, as nearly every scene that the two share contains at least one argument. Even the opening sequences display the girls' continuous bickering.
2. What actress provides the Japanese voice for Yuu?

Answer: Kaoru Morota

Kaoru Morota was born on September 26, 1971 in Osaka, Japan. Her other roles include Weda in "Hare + Guu" and Seiko in "Asagiri no Miko" Mie Sonozaki and Shizuka Ishikawa were compatriots of hers in "Comic Party", playing Aya and Eimi, respectively. Yuriko Fuchizaki was not involved in the series, but she did voice another bespectacled beauty with a Kansai dialect: Kouran Li from "Sakura Wars".
3. What is the name of Yuu's doujin circle?

Answer: Karamitei

Yuu's circle (which consists of just one person) is called "Karamitei", which means "spicy restaurant". While signs with the name could be seen as early as the first episode of "Comic Party", it was not stated verbally until episode 9, "The Unforgettable Dream".

The other choices are other characters' circles: "Brother 2" belongs to Taishi and Kazuki (although you never see Taishi doing anything with it); "Jamming Book Store" is Aya; and of course, Eimi is the artist behind "Cat or Fish!?".
4. What video game, also the basis of an anime, are Yuu's doujinshi based on?

Answer: To Heart

The popular dating-sim-turned-anime "To Heart" makes several appearances in "Comic Party", showing up everywhere from dream sequences to posters to ancient ruins that might or might not exist. Yuu joins in the fun, creating her own homage to the series entitled "Heart Beat".
5. Yuu's rival derisively refers to her as what animal?

Answer: Panda

Eimi constantly refers to Yuu as a panda, probably a reference to her large glasses which somewhat resemble the circles around a panda's eyes. She adds many different adjectives to the appellation, with the most common phrase being "onsen ko-panda" ("hot springs panda cub") though at least she drops the "cub" part later on. Yuu retaliates with "Oo-baka Eimi", a pun on Ooba Eimi's name which translates as "Big Idiot Eimi". [Remember that in Japan, the family name (Ooba) is generally given first.]
6. What unusual accessory does Yuu frequently carry with her?

Answer: A paper fan

Yuu commonly carries a large, folded paper fan called a harisen, which is a common Japanese comedic prop. She will often gesture with the fan to emphasize her point, and will even occasionally use it to hit another character, like Eimi.
7. When Taishi misplaced the registration card for himself and Kazuki for the winter Comic Party, what did Yuu do to help them?

Answer: She got a duplicate form from the preparatory committee.

In "Brother 2, Once Again", Taishi accidentally left his and Kazuki's registration card inside a manga which he sold to a used-book store. Upon realizing this, the two of them ran to the store and began searching through veritable mountains of unsorted books. Unfortunately for them, the book they needed had already been sold. Meanwhile, Yuu displayed a characteristic that I like to call "sense", and went to the preparatory committee to have the registration re-issued.
8. Any fan of Yuu knows the importance that Inobou has for her, so there should be no surprise that she assembled a group known as the "Inobou Rockers". What type of organization was it?

Answer: A baseball team

Due to an administrative error, Yuu and Eimi were assigned the same space at an exhibition in "What We're After Is Superhuman Baseball". Since neither one wanted to share a space with the other, they agreed to settle the dispute with a baseball game; winner take all. Thus, Yuu created the Inobou Rockers (named after her family's Inobou Inn) to take on Eimi's Pretty Penguins. Down 4-3 in the ninth with two out, Yuu hit an RBI triple to tie the game, but was tagged out at home by Eimi to end the inning. All the other players left at that point, ending the game in a 4-4 tie.

Unfortunately, we never got to see if they really did wind up sharing the space.
9. Why did Yuu's team not win the tennis tournament?

Answer: Yuu resigned from the tournament due to foul play.

Oddly enough, Yuu was partnered with Eimi for the tournament, which took place during "Princess of Tennis (Tentative.)" Both were skilled players, and they would have had a very good chance of winning. However, two of Eimi's fans put tacks in Mizuki's shoes to help Eimi win. (Eimi was not collaborating with the two; they were acting on their own.) When Yuu learned of this, she immediately resigned.
10. What does Yuu plan to do after graduating college?

Answer: Work at her family's hot springs inn

In "The Uncertain Future", it was revealed that Yuu's family owns a hot springs inn located in the mountains of Kobe (the source of her delightful dialect). She expects to work there before eventually taking over the family business, both because of a promise she made to her parents, and because she genuinely likes the place.

While she might possibly be able to make it as a professional manga artist (manga-ka), she draws only for fun, and does not want her hobby to become a job that she is required to do.

Instead, she plans to keep producing doujinshi until she loses the desire, then stop. However, she says that she will never lose that desire so long as there are people who look forward to her work.
