Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. Racers travelled from Osaka to Kyoto in Leg 3, doing so by which means?

Answer: Bullet train

Racers headed out from Osaka with the direction to head to the Shin-Osaka Train Station to catch a ride on the Shinkansen, Japan's bullet train, to the former capital city of Kyoto. Upon arriving in Central Kyoto, they could hop into a cab and make their way towards the eastern mountains to Shimogamo Shrine, one of the countless places of worship in this picturesque city.

There, they had to use their money to purchase an o-mikuji, a sheet of fortune-telling paper which, when they dipped it into water, would tell them to travel to the Shiramine Jingu Shrine.
2. To complete their Road Block, racers played kemari alongside Kyoto locals in Leg 3. How many passes did they need to make to get their next clue?

Answer: Five

Arriving at Shiramine Jingu Shrine, racers encountered the Road Block for this leg of the race, joining the locals in learning a traditional game known as kemari. Similar to hacky-sack, but played with something akin to a soccer ball, the game made for this Road Block required that the participating racers complete five full passes to receive their next clue.

Jonathan, Carson, Scott, Josiah, Pops, Erika, Nick, Brett, Carrigain, Courtney, and Han were selected for this Road Block.
3. Which team collected the Express Pass made available in Kyoto (in Leg 3)?

Answer: Jonathan and Ana

Racers were informed, leaving Osaka, that this third leg of the race would include the opportunity to collect an Express Pass, allowing that team to skip a task found along the race course before a certain leg of the race. To collect it, teams needed to complete the Road Block at Shiramine Jingu Shrine, but the non-participating teammate had to complete the task as well. Jonathan and Ana both finished the task, so they took the Pass.

After the Road Block/Express Pass task, racers had to make their way to Yasaka Koshin-do Temple for their next challenge.
4. Racers completing the 'Fold It' Detour task in Kyoto had to fold which origami item?

Answer: Crane

Heading to the Yasaka Koshin-do Temple, teams needed to make their way on foot to the nearby Kyoto Budo Temple to start a Detour task.

In 'Fold It', racers had to partake in some traditional origami, but in a more complicated way. Using a human-sized square of paper, teams needed to fold their provided piece into an origami swan matching a demonstrated example.

In 'Fling It', racers took on target practice instead, attempting to be dextrous as they threw three shurikens each, three bo shurikens each, and three fukibari from a blowgun (again, each) to get the next clue.

Although many started by attempting 'Fling It', all eleven teams completed 'Fold It'.
5. Which team was eliminated at the end of Leg 3, leaving the race in Kyoto, Japan?

Answer: Courtney and Jasmin

Leaving the Detour, racers received one last clue, cracking it open to find instructions sending them to the race's third Pit Stop, Konkaikomyo-ji Temple. Scott and Lori led the pack leaving the Road Block, holding onto the lead by moments to claim a $5,000 USD prize.

After a long day with struggles at both the Road Block and Detour, it was Courtney and Jasmin who slid to the back of the pack and landed on the mat in eleventh place, finding that they were eliminated from the race.
6. Leg 4 of the race had teams flying to what Indonesian island?

Answer: Bali

Teams had to head from their Kyoto Pit Stop back to Osaka to locate GS Travel at the start of Leg 4, and from there they would be able to purchase tickets on a flight that would take them three thousand miles south to the nation of Indonesia, touching down in Bali.

There, racers could touch down, hop into cabs, and navigate themselves to Pura Puseh Bali Aga Bayad for an overnight stay. Arriving early meant they could leave ahead of the other teams, departing on the back of all-terrain vehicles to locate Kuber Waterfall, deep in the jungle (and through a cave), to find their next clue.
7. Racers participating in the Road Block in Indonesia in Leg 4 had to thresh which of these local crops?

Answer: Rice

Reaching the waterfall, racers were instructed to return to the starting point and proceed by taxi to the town of Tampaksiring. There, in one of the village's picturesque rice fields, racers located the clue box containing their Road Block and were required to 'rice to the occasion'. For this one, racers joined locals in threshing rice by hand, removing rice from their husks

Ana, Lori, Nick, Alyssa, Han, Jack, Jeff, Melinda, Carrigain, and Mark were selected for this task while Jonathan and Ana elected to use their Express Pass to bypass this task altogether.
8. Which team utilized the Driver's Seat in Leg 4?

Answer: Jonathan and Ana

In addition to arriving at the Road Block, teams encountered the first-ever Driver's Seat in "The Amazing Race", which allowed the first team to arrive to set the pace for all the teams at the proceeding task. This meant that Jonathan and Ana, who managed to arrive at the board in first place, were able to select the amount of rice that racers needed to thresh for the Road Block, picking two teams to complete fifteen pounds, three teams to complete twenty pounds, and five teams to complete twenty-five pounds.

If teams could pass through the challenge, they would get their clue and be able to make their way to Penglipuran Village.
9. Most teams completed which of these Indonesian Detour tasks in Leg 4?

Answer: 'Penjor'

Arriving in the distinctive Penglipuran Village, racers joined locals in completing either 'Penjor' or 'Pajegan' for their Detour task. For 'Penjor', racers had to decorate a penjor, a long bamboo pole adorned with leaves, flowers, and offerings and, when approved, carry it through town to a display station.

In 'Pajegan', racers instead went shopping, purchasing fruit offerings to replicate a religious offering and, when complete, carry it on their heads to a local temple to get their next clue. Most teams completed 'Penjor'.
10. Which team stepped on the Pit Stop mat at the end of Leg 4 in last place, finding themselves eliminated in Indonesia?

Answer: Bernie and Carrigain

After the Detour, teams had to travel on foot to the race's fourth Pit Stop, right in front of the entrance of the temple of Pura Dalem Pelapuan in Penglipuran Village. Jonathan and Ana managed to leverage both the Express Pass and the Driver's Seat to land on the mat in first place for a second consecutive leg, this time claiming an Expedia trip for two to Croatia and Montenegro. Trailing the teams from the jump, Bernie and Carrigain were unable to overcome a late flight, a heavy Road Block allotment, and internal arguing.

It meant facing their elimination. They would be sent home in tenth.
