When he decides to step down and go into an internet business with his brother, she agrees to go out with him again. Rob is clearly taken aback when he discovers this, but tells Amy that he understands why it happened the way it did. Tom dumps Amy for his ex-wife soo afterward.

She originally asked for one Saturday a month for everyone in the court system to volunteer and have 200 adoptions finalized on that day. She believes he is an alcoholic, as he has been having a drink or two most nights for several years. Amy finds out that her father, Edward Gray, was also a drinker and Maxine fought with him at times. Maxine refuses to use the terms drunk or alcoholic to describe her husband or her son. Maxine's tobacco use is common knowledge at this point, from as far back as early in season one.
