Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. Telescopic Fist
The "telescopic fist" gives Rayman the much-needed ability to punch enemies and - upon later receiving "grappling fist" - grab objects such as "flying rings". Rayman receives the "telescopic fist" power-up during the opening chapter, "Pink Plant Woods", and retains the ability for the remainder of his adventure.
2. Betilla the Fairy
Betilla the Fairy supports Rayman throughout his quest to defeat the evil Mr Dark who has locked up electoons in cages and dispersed them across the worlds of "The Dream Forest", "Band Land", "Blue Mountains", "Picture City", "The Cave of Skops" and "Candy Chateau".
In order to free the electoons, Rayman has to punch open their cages. Finding the cages becomes progressively more difficult and Betilla the Fairy grants Rayman power-ups to help him on his way.
3. Mr Sax
Mr Sax is the boss of "Band Land" and he takes the form of a giant saxophone that likes to stomp around his musical world. The big showdown with Mr Sax occurs on the level called "Mr Sax's Hullaballoo" and in order to defeat this woodwind bully, Rayman has to punch musical notes back into Mr Sax's bell (though in reality hitting any part of him does the trick). Once defeated, he cheers up, rediscovers his love of music and dances momentarily with Rayman.
4. Candy Chateau
"Candy Chateau" is a one-level world where Rayman finally encounters his arch-nemesis, Mr Dark. "Candy Chateau" is very definitely sickly sweet in design, with the world being constructed from sweets, chocolate, nougat, ice cream, cake and other diabetes-inducing goodies. Even getting to this stage is a major achievement, as every single incarcerated electoon must be freed before Rayman is even granted access!
5. Mr Skops
Skops, scorpion, it is close enough I suppose! Mr Skops is indeed a scorpion who is the boss of the subterranean world, "The Caves of Skops". Before battling Mr Skops, Rayman will meet Joe the Extra-Terrestrial who provides him with a firefly that will help light up some of the extensive cave system that awaits the protagonist.
6. Ting
Tings are blue spherical objects that function as the unit of currency in 'Rayman'. For every one hundred tings collected, a player receives an extra life (much needed in this game) but if a player dies at any point then the ting count resets to zero.
There are many opportunities throughout the game to give ten tings to the Magician who, in return, will give you a shot at completing a bonus challenge. If a player successfully completes the challenge then they are rewarded with an extra life; if a player fails, well there's always next time.
7. Flying Power-Up
A useful power-up received by Rayman during his long, perilous quest is "helicopter", which grants our loveable hero the ability to fly for a short period of time. In terms of gameplay, this ability allows Rayman to successfully transition between platforms that would not otherwise be conquerable by jumping.
This ability is granted to Rayman by Betilla the Fairy upon completion of the high-speed level, "Allegro Presto".
8. Moskito
Moskito is the boss of the opening world of 'Rayman' called "The Dream Forest" and, unsurprisingly, this boss takes the form of a mosquito. This isn't the first member of the Culcidae family encountered by Rayman however, as in order to face Moskito, the protagonist must first defeat - and then befriend - the somewhat weaker Bzzit.
9. Picture City
'Rayman' has a high degree of difficulty and "Picture City" is the first world where a player really starts to feel the heat. "Picture City" is one of the most beautiful worlds in the game - constructed from pencils, brushes, paints, inks, sharpeners and various other bits of stationery - but navigating the levels of this artistic world is fraught with risk.
The main source of difficulty arises from the abundance of very narrow, slippery platforms. Space Mama is the boss of this world and rather randomly carries around a rolling pin.
10. Mr Stone
Mr Stone is one of the more sinister bosses in the employ of the arch-villain Mr Dark. Mr Stone presides over the "Blue Mountains" game world which consists of three challenging levels: "Twilight Gulch", "The Hard Rocks" and "Mr Stone's Peaks". Upon defeating Mr Stone, Rayman is granted the "running" ability by Betilla the Fairy. Being quicker in this game is not always for the best - use with caution!
