Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. As soon as Mario arrives in Delfino Plaza, what type of weather will he encounter?

Answer: Cloudiness

Although Isle Delfino is allegedly the ideal place to take a tropical vacation in paradise, Mario's arrival will be marred by unfortunate weather. It's no surprise once you get down to it though, since all of Isle Delfino's Shine Sprites will be scattered around the island, and it's only through collecting them and accessing the different courses in the game that he'll be able to brighten the place up again, restoring it to its idyllic self.

There are matters to take care of first, however.
2. Which course is accessible from the side of the lighthouse?

Answer: Gelato Beach

Three of these early-game courses are found when Mario rids those parts of Delfino Plaza of waiting Proto-Piranhas, the first of which is in the middle plaza (revealing a statue and Bianco Hills), the second of which is burying the boathouse (and Ricco Harbor), and the third of which covers the lighthouse (and Gelato Beach). Pinna Park is an outlier here, becoming accessible once Shadow Mario heads over the water with Peach in tow; Mario can get there by firing out of a cannon.
3. Some buildings in Delfino Plaza are only accessible if Mario uses which method of getting around?

Answer: Travelling through the sewers

Throughout Delfino Plaza Mario will likely find small, circular manholes on the ground, and a quick ground pound will send him down into the tunnels below, allowing him to navigate the town without going around the buildings. It's a worthwhile way to travel since these passages allow him to access otherwise unreachable spots, even in the cliffs behind the village and on the islands off its shore.

They're also the perfect place to accumulate some coins, gold ones or blue ones.
4. Is there a Shine Sprine to be earned through obtaining 100 Coins in Delfino Plaza?

Answer: Yes

Just like with most other locations in the game (excluding Corona Mountain), Mario can obtain a Shine Sprite by collecting 100 Golden Coins without leaving the course, and Delfino Plaza's collection isn't all too difficult. In addition to a colossal amount of coins to be collected in the city sewers, Mario can find more by spraying open windows and all of the wanted posters throughout town.

When the Shine Sprite finally materializes on a pedestal out at sea, he can hop on a passing boat and snag it.
5. The Yoshi Egg will only start appearing once Mario completes a certain episode from what course?

Answer: Pinna Park

Once the player finishes the Pinna Park episode called 'The Wilted Sunflowers', Yoshi will unlock throughout the game, and Mario can collect him and use him provided he can feed the Yoshi egg whatever fruit it wants (allowing him to hatch). Yoshi is necessary to collect several Shine Sprites in the game, and in some cases (like in accessing Sirena Beach), he's needed to access entire courses.
6. In order to access Noki Bay, Mario has to stare at which of these?

Answer: The sun

Once you have twenty Shine Sprites (and Yoshi), the sun mosaic at Delfino Plaza's central dock will be illuminated by a beam of light from the sky. Odd, right? What this means is that you'll he able to access the game's sixth course, Noki Bay, but only if you stand within the lit-up circle and stare, from an over-the-shoulder view, at the sun.

This is the only portal in the game where Mario won't need to jump through/into something to get to where he needs to be.
7. One of the 'secret' areas Mario can access from Delfino Plaza is actually which of these?

Answer: A pachinko machine

One of a handful of 'secret' areas in which Mario is deprived of his use of FLUDD, the pachinko machine is found underneath the bridgeway that crosses the canal between the plaza's inner harbour and the sea beyond. In this secret stage, Mario simply needs to fire himself up into the big pachinko machine, taking the paths wherever they take him to collect eight Red Coins.

There are ways of sliding off the game completely (and he'll lose a life for it) so you'll need to be gentle enough to avoid the pitfalls.
8. Inside the boathouse, Mario can visit raccoons who will give him Shine Sprites if he trades which of these?

Answer: Blue Coins

Mario has the ability to collect two hundred fifty Blue Coins throughout the game, and these are used for a couple of purposes though the primary one is to get the raccoons' Sprites here. Their shop will open up when Mario unlocks Ricco Harbor, but anytime he gets ten Blue Coins he should stop in and swap them for one of the twenty-four Shine Sprites they'll have in their hands over the course of the game.

This means that 20% of all Shine Sprites are traded in this manner.
9. Behind the Shine Gate is a cave that allows Mario to access what boss location?

Answer: Corona Mountain

The final step in the main storyline of "Super Mario Sunshine" will begin with a flood in Delfino Plaza, and that will only occur when you've collected the first seven Shine Sprites from each of the seven main courses of the game. When this happens, Mario can head into the tunnel behind the Shine Gate and head up into the lava-filled Corona Mountain, the last stand before he encounters Bowser Jr. and Bowser himself for a final boss battle.
10. How many coins does it cost Mario to return to Delfino Airstrip?

Answer: Ten

If Mario defeats Bowser, the game doesn't simply end; you can go back to Delfino Plaza and keep collecting Blue Coins and Shine Sprites to bring yourself to the 120 Shine Sprite total. One thing that will unlock, when this happens, is your ability to speak to a Pianta near the boathouse in Delfino Plaza.

They'll ask for ten coins as a fee and, for the first time since the start of the game, you'll be able to return to the airstrip for a mission to collect eight Red Coins.
