Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. Mecha-Bowser Appears!
Answer: Pinna Park
As soon as Princess Peach is kidnapped from Delfino Plaza, Mario can shoot off to Pinna Park and commence the first episode there, 'Mecha-Bowser Appears!', wherein he'll chase down Shadow Mario and discover that his foe is, in fact, Bowser Jr., there to collect his 'Mama' on behalf of his father. Mario will need to fight a giant, mechanized Bowser while strapped into a roller coaster cart, and when he finishes it off with a barrage of rockets, it'll be enough to send Bowser Jr. (and Peach, still), off to Corona Mountain to await the finale.
2. The Manta Storm
Answer: Sirena Beach
The first episode of Sirena Beach, 'The Manta Storm', is a tense one since Mario will emerge onto the shores of the course to find a paradise under siege. The mess left behind here will be unlike any seen earlier since it'll be electrified, so Mario will need to be very conscious that he doesn't step into it.
At the same time, the shadow of a large manta ray will return to the beach, and Mario has to spray it with water to split it into tinier rays. Only when all of them are defeated can Mario get his Shine Sprite and return the Hotel Delfino to its safer state.
3. The Caged Shine Sprite
Answer: Ricco Harbor
Hanging overtop Ricco Harbor is a series of metal catwalks and rigging that one would presume helps the location act as an important shipping destination, and in the middle of this, high above the water, is a large cistern-like cage that Mario will need to get inside to collect a Shine Sprite.
The stage is a precarious one, and Mario will need to not only balance, but avoid enemies to get on top and drop inside to collect his prize.
4. Clean the East Bell
Answer: Delfino Plaza
Although Mario will need to explore a number of different reaches on Isle Delfino, Delfino Plaza, the game's hub world, is also chock full of Shine Sprites-- more than any other area, in fact. Although some of these simply require that Mario run errands or find his way through the nooks and crannies of this large space, some are tasks that he can simply infer need to be done, like cleaning the east and west bells and the giant Shine Sprite atop the Shine Gate. Delfino Plaza is also home to a handful of 'secret' areas if you can find them!
5. The Goopy Inferno
Answer: Pianta Village
The third episode Mario faces in Pianta Village is 'The Goopy Inferno', and as he goes through the day-and-night woes of this remote area, the heat will intensify. This particular instance will find Mario in the village when it's covered in hot lava, and his goal will be to reach the mayor of the village, trapped in the middle of all of it, but navigating the city's lower platforms and mushrooms.
The real catch is that he has to do it without FLUDD. This is the only time in the game where Shadow Mario will steal the device before Mario even has a chance to get into the course.
6. Hold It, Shadow Mario!
Answer: Noki Bay
More than most courses, Noki Bay has Mario scaling cliffsides and swimming in the waters around Isle Delfino, and the 'Hold It, Shadow Mario!' episode (the seventh, as is tradition) will get him scaling the precarious ledges around the region. Each main course of the game-- there are seven-- will give Mario the opportunity to chase down his doppelganger.
The only way to get the Shine Sprite and stop him is to spray him with water.
7. Father and Son Shine!
Answer: Corona Mountain
Technically the ONLY Shine Sprite that Mario can collect at this final course of the game is 'Father and Son Shine!', and the implication is that he needs to defeat the father and son duo of Bowser and Bowser Jr. to get the final Shine Sprite and save Princess Peach. What this involves is taking a precarious trip through the volcano at the center of Isle Delfino and ascending to Bowser's arena, a massive hot tub in the crater.
8. The Hillside Cave Secret
Answer: Bianco Hills
The first 'secret' level Mario is likely to encounter is this one, the third level of the game's first course. Although these truly aren't 'secrets' (since the game directs you to them), they do take Mario to a unique realm in which Shadow Mario takes his FLUDD away and leaves him to navigate across dangerous floating platforms and obstacles. Generally, once Mario finishes these course once, he can return to them with FLUDD and complete a Red Coin time trial on them for an additional Shine Sprite.
9. The Watermelon Festival
Answer: Gelato Beach
Although most of the events that occur on Gelato Beach, the third course of the game, pertain to the Sand Bird or Wiggler, the area's final Shine Sprite, 'The Watermelon Festival', is just a bit of weird fun as Mario is required to locate a giant watermelon at the top of the course and bring it back to the beach cabana to be judged in a competition.
Naturally, the watermelon is fragile, so getting it there intact is the real challenge.
10. Red Coin Waterworks
Answer: Delfino Airstrip
Although Mario can get his first Shine Sprite of the game on Delfino Airstrip, completion of the game's main storyline (and the defeat of Bowser) means he can pay a fee of 10 coins to gain access to the Airstrip one more time at the end of the game. Doing so will allow him to complete a Red Coin challenge there, scouring the airstrip and adjoining structures to collect them all in exchange for a hidden Sprite.
