Answer: Nellie Tayloe Ross of Wyoming

Ross was elected in November 1924 following the death of her husband on October 2, 1924 who was serving as governor at the time. She took office on January 5, 1925. Miriam Ferguson of Texas was elected to office the same day in November, but she did not take office until two weeks after Ross.

She was elected following the impeachment of her husband as governor of Texas and served two terms, although they were not consecutive.
