The Arab league has 22 current members, which each member having one vote in the Council of the Arab League. It also consists of seven observer states that may send delegates to council meetings but do not have any voting power. Three countries have been suspended from the Arab League in its history, although all three have since been reinstated. Egypt was suspended in 1979 following the country's peace treaty with Israel. Libya and Syria were suspended in 2011 following the outbreak of the Libyan Civil War and Syrian Civil War respectively.
The stated mission of the Arab League is to unify Arabic-speaking peoples while simultaneously respecting the sovereignty of its member nations.
