Buffy the Vampire Slayer Comics Trivia Questions

1. "Last Gleaming Pt. 1"- At the beginning of the issue, Angel was having a talk with a higher being housed inside the body of what kind of animal?

From Quiz
"Buffy the Vampire Slayer" Season Eight- Part 5

Answer: Dog

The issue, written by series creator Joss Whedon, started off with a drawing of the Hollywood sign in Los Angeles, California with the caption "Some time ago..." Angel fell from the sky and through the Hollywood sign, landing back in the City of Angels where he'd lost the fight (as he put it). The "dog" told Angel his city had been restored and that Angel was meant for more. Angel joked that the dog telling him to continue killing was reminiscent of the Son of Sam situation that occurred in New York City in the mid 1970s.

2. "Retreat Pt. 2"- In Tibet, Oz introduced the gang to his life partner and baby. What was the name of Oz's child?

From Quiz "Buffy the Vampire Slayer" Season Eight- Part 4

Answer: Kelden

Oz's partner's name is Bayarmaa Bay. They have a child named Kelden, whom I believed to be a boy. The name Kelden means 'slender' in Gaelic. Kelden seemed to take a liking to Giles. For the newer members of the slayer circle, Oz then went into how he came to be able to control his werewolf within. He was referred to Tibetan monks by a warlock named Dragomir from Romania. They gave him chants, herbs, and charms to lock into his inner strength. Afterward, he returned briefly to Sunnydale to reconnect with Willow. It turned out that Willow's new relationship with Tara at the time was able to release the wolf, even during the daytime. This was also all told in the "Buffy the Vampire Slayer" season four episode "New Moon Rising". "Retreat Pt. 2" was written by Jane Espenson.

3. "Predators and Prey" - Which rogue slayer did Buffy and Andrew go after?

From Quiz "Buffy the Vampire Slayer" Season Eight- Part 3

Answer: Simone

Andrew had located the whereabouts of Nisha, who could lead them to Simone. She was entangled in the web of a Ragna spider demon. On the way to Nisha's location, Andrew talked endlessly of all his geek favs. He discussed, with no response from Buffy, about a Jedi defeating Superman, Vanity Smurf, Lee and Dualla from "Battlestar Galactica", Giles, Linda Hamilton being more important to fans than Arnold in the "Terminator" series, Helen Keller being reincarnated as Helen Killer, his sadness about Heath Ledger, dressing like Don Draper from "Mad Men", Sean "Diddy" Combs, Jem, and Daniel Craig as James Bond. Buffy stopped him there, as she could understand that one. She'd once experienced a fever interesting dream about Daniel in season eight, so they geek bonded over him. This issue was written by Drew Z. Greenberg. Drew was writer on six "Buffy" TV scripts and story editor on over a dozen more.

4. In issue number eleven, why did Buffy tell Satsu it was a bad idea for Satsu to be in love with her?

From Quiz "Buffy the Vampire Slayer" Season Eight- Part 2

Answer: "People who love me tend to, oh, die."

This was in "A Beautiful Sunset". Buffy came to aid Satsu, and during the fight told her that she knew Satsu was in love with her. Satsu's true love kiss had woken Buffy in an earlier issue from a magical coma. So, Buffy knew that what Satsu felt was more than a mere crush. Buffy went on to tell the slayer that she felt good for herself about Satsu's affections, but worried about Satsu's safety. Buffy to Satsu: "People who love me tend to, oh die..maybe go to a hell dimension, or burn up, or they start letting vamps suck on 'em and they leave. they all leave, even my friends, sooner or later everybody realizes there's something wrong..something wrong with me, or around me, or..." It was in season two's "Surprise" that Buffy told Willow she needed to stop "waiting for Xander to wake up and smell the hottie."

5. "Last Gleaming Pt. 1"- Spike admitted to Buffy that he was there with her and the gang looking for what magical entity?

From Quiz "Buffy the Vampire Slayer" Season Eight- Part 5

Answer: Seed of Wonder

Angel had to save a crashing jetliner falling from the sky above Los Angeles. A wink and nod from Joss Whedon that it was an Oceanic airplane, an airline used in TV and movies. Maybe the most well known use was in the TV series "Lost", when an Oceanic flight (815) from Sydney to Los Angeles crashed into a mysterious island. After Angel saved the flight from disaster, he was thanked salaciously by a flight attendant. She was playing host to the higher being at the time, and afterward told Angel he'd been rewarded for giving up his paradise with Buffy in a way that far surpassed the Shanshu prophecy. The Scroll of Aberjian held the Shanshu prophecy, which claimed the vampire with a soul could become human once his atonement was fulfilled. Spike told Buffy he and his bug minions were searching for the magical Seed of Wonder. It would stop the chaos going on in the aftermath of Buffy and Angel's new reality. A reality they immediately abandoned for the greater good, but which was now getting bent of shape over being ditched at birth. And, Spike too was now a vampire with the soul, so Shanshu may never have been Angel at all. And, unfortunately, the Seed of Wonder seemed to be back where it had all started..

6. "Retreat Pt. 3"- Buffy confessed to this person that she had killed them in the future.

From Quiz "Buffy the Vampire Slayer" Season Eight- Part 4

Answer: Willow

At the start of this story, Andrew came to Giles convinced that a spy was in their midst. He decided to use his video camera to document the group and see if he could figure out who the spy was. During his own spying, Andrew witnessed conversations between Buffy and Faith, Willow and Oz, Buffy and Xander, and Buffy and Willow. It was in that conversation between Buffy and Willow, with baby Kelden looking on, that Buffy confessed she had been forced to kill Dark Willow in the future. Real Willow was not upset, and told Buffy she believed that the potential for Dark Willow was almost completely gone. At the end of the story, Andrew told the group he'd been watching them all. Just as he did so, the Siamese looking cat that had been hanging out with them disappeared! Amy was immediately suspected of being the spy, in cat form. Jane Espenson wrote "Retreat Pt. 3".

7. In "Wolves at the Gate", issue twelve, Buffy had something very important stolen from the castle. What was it?

From Quiz "Buffy the Vampire Slayer" Season Eight- Part 2

Answer: the scythe

Xander and Renee were standing guard when the wolves first approached. While Xander made jokes and worked up the courage to ask Renee out on a date, Buffy and Satsu were basking in the afterglow of their first time. Little by little, each of her closest people found out about her experience with Satsu. First it was Xander and Renee, who'd come to her room to report the wolves. Then, it was Andrew, who'd flown in with Willow and was feeling the after effects of a dose of Dramamine. Not longer after, Willow literally crash landed into the room as Dawn (still a giant) peeked in the window from outside. She'd been sleeping in the barn when a swarm of bees came upon her. Of course.. they weren't real bees at all..

8. "The Long Way Home Part 2"- while in a deep hypnotic sleep, who was Buffy having romantic dreams about?

From Quiz "Buffy the Vampire Slayer" Season Eight- Part 1

Answer: Xander

She dreamt that she was seducing Xander, not for the first time, when his head literally came off of his body! Then she was jerked out of her castle and into the claws of a dragon. After he breathed fire down upon her, the scene switched to Amy Madison standing over Buffy in the real world, ready to plunge a dagger into her heart! The real Xander came in at that moment with some slayers, and told Amy that Buffy's sleep was always magically protected. Amy was locked inside the room magically, but she had a horde of undead coming up the wall. Nothing seemed to kill the monsters, and the slayers were becoming desperate, when Willow showed up to help save the day! Part two was also written by Joss Whedon.

9. "Last Gleaming Pt. 2"- Near the end of this issue, Buffy jumped down into the crater that was once Sunnydale. Who grabbed a hold of her and rode down into the crater as well?

From Quiz "Buffy the Vampire Slayer" Season Eight- Part 5

Answer: Spike

In this issue, written by Joss Whedon and Scott Allie, Spike explained to Buffy about the Seed of Wonder. He used the cork in a wine bottle metaphor to explain its purpose. The Seed of Wonder was basically a mystical cork standing between their dimension and all of the other ones out there. It created all of the magic found on their plane of existence, was older than even the First Evil, and could face three different fates. It could left as it was currently. It could be removed and destroyed, as was Twilight's mission. Or, it could be destroyed while sitting deep inside the Earth. The last option would stave off dimensional bleeds, but erase all of the magic on the current plane of existence. Once the pair made it down into the Sunnydale crater, the protector of the Seed told Spike he'd expected Twilight to travel down with Buffy. Angel, aka Twilight, was off fighting another battle and being goaded on by some entity to destroy the Seed. This was the same creature posing as a dog in the previous issue. It appeared at the end of this issue that Angel had not been quite sold on fulfilling his Twilight destiny. This entity kept calling Angel 'father'. Meanwhile, Willow was finding out from Aluwyn that she was most likely the traitor Buffy had faced in the future. Willow had to make sure that Twilight/Angel was not successful in his mission to destroy the Seed, should he choose to accept said mission,

10. In "Retreat Pt. 4", we found out what was aiding the group in losing their magicks. What was it that was literally sucking the magicks from the witches and slayers?

From Quiz "Buffy the Vampire Slayer" Season Eight- Part 4

Answer: Goddesses

They tried to fight the old fashioned way- with actual weapons. When that seemed to be heading nowhere good, they began to brainstorm about the truth behind the great magick suckage. They figured out that Goddesses were behind it, and used ancient scrolls to try and communicate. They needed the Goddesses to come in and save them. At the end of the segment, three very large and ancient looking Goddesses appeared. This issue of "Retreat" was also written by Jane Espenson.

11. Who'd re-created the once extinct Ragna spider demon featured in "Predators and Prey"?

From Quiz "Buffy the Vampire Slayer" Season Eight- Part 3

Answer: Andrew

After they found Nisha, she told Buffy that the demon had been extinct until Andrew used recombinate DNA to recreate it. He was sorry and ashamed that he'd lied to Buffy by omission. But, he felt that losing Simone had been all his fault. He'd been her watcher and her turning bad had been his responsibility. So, he created this demon to capture her. Buffy had learned a lot in oh these many years, and knew better. She was mad that he'd lied to her, but promised him Simone was not his fault. At the end, Simone was willing to trade Ragna for Andrew, but Buffy wasn't having it. The remainder of Andrew's slayers showed up from Italy and helped in the rescue. Buffy set loose the demon onto Simone and her band of merry traitors and they left. At the end she welcome Andrew to the family, as he'd done all the things every single one of them had at some point. He was speechless. Andrew, imagine that!

12. Finally! Dawn shrunk back down to a more appropriate size in "Time of Your Life Part 1". But, instead of being a regular woman, what had Dawn become?

From Quiz "Buffy the Vampire Slayer" Season Eight- Part 2

Answer: a centaur

Dawn told Xander that she felt like a freak. He told her he was jealous and that she looked amazing. That was just like Xander to make Dawn feel special while he dealt with his pain over Renee's death. Also in this issue, Buffy met someone new- Melaka.

13. "The Long Way Home Part 3"- in a shocking twist, what TV series villain returned from the dead to exact vengeance with Amy?

From Quiz "Buffy the Vampire Slayer" Season Eight- Part 1

Answer: Warren Mears

Buffy received her kiss from someone who held a passionate love for her and awoke from her mystical coma. We did not know who kissed her before the comic ended, as Willow told everyone they could close their eyes so the person wouldn't feel conspicuous. Willow then reported that she'd been gone so long (from the gang) because Kennedy had died for a month and then the time afterward had been awkward between them. She held Amy in a binding spell in the castle basement for awhile, which allowed Willow to run mystical traces on her. Finally, Willow was able to see that Amy had been with the military and speculated about the Initiative being back in action. Then, Willow was suddenly sucked into a portal and transported back with Amy. And, while they'd been after Buffy all along, Warren was only too happy to have a chance at revenge for Willow skinning him at the end of "Buffy" season six. Part three was written by Joss Whedon.

14. "Last Gleaming Pt. 3"- Who turned out the be the protector of the Seed of Wonder?

From Quiz "Buffy the Vampire Slayer" Season Eight- Part 5

Answer: The Master

The Master told the gang he'd been resurrected when "Twilight chose Angelus". He also said he'd expected Angel/Angelus/Twilight to already be down in the crater nearing the Seed. Spike was quick to offer, "oh he'll be around later to take credit everything, don't you fret." It turned out that the Master had been under control of the Seed for his entire 800 years, though he hadn't realized it at the time. Buffy said that explained the Master's grotesque face, which she wanted to hit again after so many years. Xander made a cute "Lord of the Rings" reference by insinuating the Master was Gollum and the Seed was "his precious". This issue, part three of five, was also written by Joss and Scott.

15. In the final installment of the "Retreat" series, part five, who did we discover was playing double agent for the heroes?

From Quiz "Buffy the Vampire Slayer" Season Eight- Part 4

Answer: Riley

Riley had once again decided to play secret agent man. In season four of the TV series, Riley fed Buffy and the gang info about the Initiative until it became impossible for him to remain inside. In the middle of the great Goddess battle, Riley had become injured on the field. Buffy, Willow, and I believe Faith drove out to retrieve Riley. They brought him back to the temple. Twilight told Warren and Amy that Riley had been working for Buffy the entire time. Warren demanded to know if Twilight just realized that or if he had known the entire time. This final installment of "Retreat" was also written by Jane Espenson.

16. What was the name of the slayer Giles and Faith encountered at the start of issue 24, "Safe"?

From Quiz "Buffy the Vampire Slayer" Season Eight- Part 3

Answer: Courtney

Courtney had bailed on her slayer outfit because she said they weren't accomplishing anything. She felt she was ready to be in the field, killing demons, while they sat back and did nothing. But then, when confronted with her first undead fiend, she panicked! She did stake a vamp shortly thereafter, and told Giles and Faith about the "slayer sanctuary". This issue was written by Jim Krueger.

17. Buffy, via Willow, popped into the future in the "Time of Your Life" segment of season eight. What was different about slayers in the future?

From Quiz "Buffy the Vampire Slayer" Season Eight- Part 2

Answer: they were almost totally extinct.

Buffy was in the FAR future! Melaka Fray, one of only two remaining slayers, had a hard time believing Buffy was who she claimed to be. She told Buffy that it had been about "ten cen" since Buffy's time. She also told her that all the slayers had been eliminated back in Buffy's time and she was the first one called since then! Well, she admitted she was half of the newest slayer.. she had a twin who was also a slayer.. a twin brother! The first male slayer called and he was on the wrong side! His name was Harth and Melaka said he was a lurk- also known as a vampire!

18. In issue five, "The Chain", 'Buffy' descended into a hole to fight a creature named Yamanh of Hoht. What kind of mystical creature travels down with her?

From Quiz "Buffy the Vampire Slayer" Season Eight- Part 1

Answer: a faerie

The faerie claimed to have laid her eggs inside Buffy's ear canal, and didn't want to lose Buffy before they hatched. The story started off with Yamanh showing his followers that he'd killed the slayer. This issue made clear the connection that all of the slayers had with one another, and for all intents and purposes 'Buffy' was really a decoy. It wasn't stated clearly that this was one of the decoys who died at Yamanh's hands, but the dialogue didn't feel like the real Buffy, the girl died, and she called herself 'weak and expendable'. Joss Whedon wrote this script as well. It has been mentioned several times in the "Buffyverse" that leprechauns are not real.

19. "Last Gleaming Pt. 3"- Who lost his/her power while in the Seed's presence?

From Quiz "Buffy the Vampire Slayer" Season Eight- Part 5

Answer: Buffy

They called it her kryptonite. She was useless fighting down near the Seed, so she was forced to head back up to be more useful. Meanwhile, Dawn had been injured during an attack and Xander had taken her topside for military medical support. Once there, he found out the Amy and Warren had left the aid of the military and went off on their own to destroy the Seed. At the end of the issue, Twilight showed up in full control of Angel's body and attacked Buffy.

20. In "Time of Your Life Pt. 4" it was revealed that this former Scooby was the evil person controlling Melaka, Mel and Harth Fray.

From Quiz "Buffy the Vampire Slayer" Season Eight- Part 2

Answer: Willow

I am not not sure what Melaka's term "ten cen" meant, as Willow told Buffy it had been 200 years since their time. When she revealed she was pulling all the strings, Willow stated that the most important thing about death was "who killed you". And, in the end Buffy had to kill this evil future Willow to get through the portal back to her own time. It was what Willow wanted all along. Real time Willow had been instructed to wear a blindfold before she snatched Buffy back through time, and it prevented her from seeing her evil self dead. Meanwhile, Xander and Dawn had to battle the weird forest creatures outside their castle!

21. Faith returned in the "No Future For You" section of season eight. In her first issue, number six, who sent her on a mission to stake some children that had been vamped along with their mother?

From Quiz "Buffy the Vampire Slayer" Season Eight- Part 1

Answer: Robin Wood

Apparently, Faith had been dispatched to the other Hellmouth underneath Cleveland, after Sunnydale went crater-side. Wood called her there and explained about a single mom who'd been vamped. Since he decided to drop the shop talk and get a bit personal, Faith hung up on him and traveled to the location. What she did not have time to find out was that the children had all been vamped as well! She made short work of the baby vampires and headed home. When she got home, she found Giles waiting to send on her on a mission made for her special talents. He needed her to kill a rogue slayer in England. Her name was Genevieve Savidge and Faith would have to learn some social skills to infiltrate her world. The comic ended with Faith decked out in a gorgeous green ball gown. Each segment of "No Future For You" was scripted by Brian K. Vaughan.

22. "Last Gleaming Pt. 4"- Who killed the Master, again?

From Quiz "Buffy the Vampire Slayer" Season Eight- Part 5

Answer: Twilight/Angel

Twilight was sort of telling/pleading to Buffy not to turn her back on the new world they'd created together. He said "you were chosen, Buffy". The Master replied "that's original". So, Twilight put his fist right through the Master's face, all the way out the back of his head. It was a similar scene, though in reverse, of what Conner did to Jasmine at the end of season four of "Angel".

23. Who did Buffy reveal her romantic feelings toward in "Turbulence"?

From Quiz "Buffy the Vampire Slayer" Season Eight- Part 4

Answer: Xander

Buffy had been realizing her feelings for Xander (at long last) for a little bit of time prior to her big reveal. After she saw him kissing Dawn, she finally told him what was on her mind. He turned her down, not too gently, with reminders of all the people she went through before realizing he could be a romantic interest. She joked about his cradle robbing ways toward Dawn, and he joked that she had to experiment with her orientation before he even made her list. They hugged at the end, and he promised not to tell Dawn what Buffy had confessed to him. On the TV series, Xander had been mad about Buffy all during season one, carried a torch through season two, and finally moved on by the end of season three. Though he dated Cordelia in seasons two and three, and slept with Faith in season three, he still had feelings for his number one slayer.

24. Who was the "Living Doll" in issue 25?

From Quiz "Buffy the Vampire Slayer" Season Eight- Part 3

Answer: Dawn

This was Dawn's third shape-shift. She'd been a giant at the start of season eight. Then, she had mysteriously changed into a centaur. Now, finally she was a wooden doll with a porcelain face. "Living Doll" was written by Doug Petrie. He worked on 110 episodes of "BtVS" and wrote two episodes of "Angel".

25. What was the name of the evil man in the "No Future For You" series that was training Genevieve to take down Buffy?

From Quiz "Buffy the Vampire Slayer" Season Eight- Part 1

Answer: Roden

Roden's mission was to end Buffy and take over the slayers. He found Gigi (Genevieve's nickname) to be the most likely slayer candidate to take out Buffy. After meeting her, Faith seemed to relate to Gigi a little bit and the two sort of hit it off. But, in the end, Faith does have to kill Gigi to save Buffy. Of course, she doesn't do this before Buffy thinks she's gone evil again. Hamilton and Drogan were characters that originally appeared on the TV series "Angel".

26. "Last Gleaming Pt. 4"- Who took the mystical scythe from Faith in order to deliver it to Buffy?

From Quiz "Buffy the Vampire Slayer" Season Eight- Part 5

Answer: Giles

When Giles got down near the Seed, where the power duo had taken their fight, he found Xander down there as well. Xander tried to talk Giles into throwing the scythe to Buffy, since the Seed fueled the scythe's powers. But, Giles was sure if he did that, Buffy would hesitate in killing Twilight for fear of ending Angel at the same time. Twilight killed Giles by snapping his neck, which immediately prompted Buffy to retaliate. She used the scythe to destroy the Seed. Warren was killed by something that fell from the sky (hooray). Magicks were gone, and the slayer line was ended.

27. What new power did Buffy discover, and reveal, in issue 31 "Turbulence"?

From Quiz "Buffy the Vampire Slayer" Season Eight- Part 4

Answer: she could fly

She'd been flying with Willow in issues past, but in this issue she could fly on her own. She and Willow could not determine why that had happened, especially since the slayers had lost all their power to the Goddesses. To defeat the Goddesses, Buffy had Willow create a giant hole and she then used her flying power to help knock them all down into it. It turned out, she also had Superman like strength as well as the ability to fly. "Turbulence" was written by Joss Whedon.

28. What did Dawn do that resulted in her being turned back into her old self in issue 25, "Living Doll"?

From Quiz "Buffy the Vampire Slayer" Season Eight- Part 3

Answer: she apologized to Kenny

It was that simple! Kenny came along to help rescue Dawn from her captor. The captor was a doll maker living in a cottage in the woods. He resembled Geppetto from "Pinocchio" fame. Kenny burst into the cottage, in full thricewise form, and Dawn immediately apologized to him for sleeping with his roommate. That is what had started the entire mess to begin with. She instantly turned back into the old Dawn Summers, as Kenny accepted her apology and also turned back into his human form. She explained that her intense feelings for him had caused her to do some dumb things and he said he understood. There had been a few more nasty forms Dawn would have shifted into if they hadn't resolved the issue at this time. At the end of the issue, Dawn admitted to Buffy that she might have scratched one of her "Veronica Mars" DVDs. Nice pop culture reference here!

29. In season eight, Harmony became a reality TV star. What was the name of her show on MTV?

From Quiz "Buffy the Vampire Slayer" Season Eight- Part 2

Answer: Harmony Bites

"Harmonic Divergence" was the twenty-first issue of season eight. Released in January 2009 and written by long-time "Buffy" alum Jane Espenson, the issue held true the on-screen personality of our favorite vampiric ditz, Harmony Kendall. Harmony pitched the idea of a reality show that followed her as she bit people, but didn't kill or turn them. MTV loved the idea and "Harmony Bites" was born! Buffy and Willow discovered this at the same time a new slayer came on to the scene. Andrew tried to recruit the new slayer as the new reality show aired weeknights at 7pm.

30. "Last Gleaming Pt. 5"- The final issue of season eight started out four months after the end of the Seed. What was Buffy doing for a job?

From Quiz "Buffy the Vampire Slayer" Season Eight- Part 5

Answer: Waitressing

Yep, our Buffy was back to waitressing! It was four months later and she was in San Francisco. She narrated that she was not completely depressed by this waitressing stint. It may have as simple as not having to wear a hat with a chicken on it (good old Doublemeat Palace).
