Chloe was painted by Jules-Joseph Lefebvre and exhibited at the Paris Salon in the 1870s. The painting came to Australian via Dr Thomas Fitzgerald who loaned the picture to the National Gallery of Victoria. The full length nude portrait shocked visitors so much that the picture was removed from display after only three weeks. The painting was later purchased by Mr Norman Young, of Young and Jacksons, in 1908, and has been a feature at the hotel ever since.
