The very first time Luce sees Daniel, she recognises him, although she can't remember where she has seen him. This is because Luce has no memory of her previous lives.

For him, Luce is supposed to die after the kiss but, as she does not, he starts acting frantically, muttering strange things to himself like an insane guy.
