Lucinda Price aka Luce is no ordinary girl. She has lived several lifetimes where each time she dies in a horrible way - burnt to ashes whenever she touches and kisses the one she loves.

In this lifetime, she's held responsible for the death of Trevor, her ex-boyfriend. Luce and Trevor were together when the accident happened. In fact, Luce herself cannot explain what happened. One minute they were hanging out together and suddenly Trevor's body started burning. As she's the only survivor, the police and the judge consider Luce as the murderer. For everyone, Luce seems to be a dangerous psychopath, and to keep her away from all, she has been enrolled at Swords & Cross reform school for kids in trouble.

Answer: The announcers

Since an early age Luce has been seeing the shadows which she sees as murky, dark frightening shapes. These shadows are known as the announcers and according to Daniel, they appear as the announcement to a battle. Indeed, every time Luce sees the shadows, something bad happens, like the night Trevor died.

Answer: Gabbe

When Luce arrives at Swords & Cross, she meets three other students - a girl and two guys. The girl is Gabbe Givens and she's the first to speak to Luce by introducing herself. In time, Luce learns that Gabbe is a fallen angel as well as one of the guys, Cam. As for Penn, she is a mortal and Luce's closest friend.

Answer: Daniel

Daniel Grigori is a fallen angel who has not sided yet. He is Luce's lover through all her lifetimes. Daniel was one of God's important angels but he fell in love with a mortal. It should be noted that one of the angelic restrictions is that they can't fall in love with humans. Daniel crossed this border, he fell in love with Luce and thus, he fell to earth. He is condemned to live eternally on earth watching Luce through all her lives, each time loving her then seeing her die, burning to ashes whenever Daniel kisses her.

The very first time Luce sees Daniel, she recognises him, although she can't remember where she has seen him. This is because Luce has no memory of her previous lives.

Answer: Arianne

Most of the students at Swords & Cross are fallen angels. From the story, not all fallen angels are evil, some are on the good side even if they've fallen from Heaven. These angels are Gabbe, who is the personification of Archangel Gabriel, and Arianne. Cam, Molly and Roland are dark fallen angels on Satan's side. Daniel, on his part, has not taken side yet.

He is said to be the one who tips the balance.

Answer: She's still alive

Daniel kisses Luce at the beach after rescuing her from a quarrel involving Cam and strangers. After the kiss, Daniel expects Luce to burst into flames as happened in her previous lives, but this time she does not. Daniel is astonished to see Luce still alive in front of him and, at the same time, he is scared as he does not understand what's happening. For him, Luce is supposed to die after the kiss but, as she does not, he starts acting frantically, muttering strange things to himself like an insane guy.

Answer: Miss Sophia

Miss Sophia, Luce's religion teacher, is one of the twenty-four Elders of the sect Zhsmaelim. Members of the sect are neither angels nor demon and are not considered in Heaven, though these Elders enjoy a respectable position.

Miss Sophia tries to kill Luce, or rather offers her in sacrifice, but Daniel comes in time to save her.

Answer: In the chapel

The first time Luce sees Daniel's angelic form is in the tiny chapel. Daniel arrives in time to prevent Miss Sophia from killing Luce. From Luce's description, Daniel's wings are taller than him and they glow with iridescent shimmer.

Answer: Because she has not been baptized.

Because her parents keep her away from a religious path, Luce does not die. In her previous lives, Luce had a religious upbringing, and it is this religious belief that enables her to reincarnate every seventeen years.

In this lifetime, Luce hasn't been baptized and is not religious. So, kissing Daniel does not kill her but if she is killed, it will be the end, no more reincarnation. She is not immortal as are the angels, and the book does not mention anything about vampires.

Answer: Yes

Cam renews the truce for eighteen days. In "Torment", we learn that it is tradition for angels' truces to last eighteen days as eighteen is a divine number, the luckiest in Heaven.

Cam cares for Luce, maybe he loves her, and he is determined to do his best to protect her even if it means cooperating with Daniel.
