1. When the book begins, how many elemental magics has Josh been trained in?

Answer: None

Josh, having only been Awakened by Mars Ultor in the previous book, has not been trained in any element. Hekate Awakened Sophie (the older twin) in the first book, but was distracted from Awakening Josh by Dee's forces burning Yggdrasil (the World Tree, where she lived). Hekate rushed out to defend Yggdrasil, and was destroyed along with the tree in the battle that followed. Sophie has been trained in Air (by the Witch of Endor) and Fire (by Saint-Germain).

In the "The Magician", Juan de Ayala, a friendly ghost, distracted the sphinx by banging doors, causing the creature to go investigate. Perenelle escaped her cell, but couldn't leave the island. She's still there at the beginning of the book.

The twins live in San Francisco but travel to both Paris and London during their attempt to avoid capture by the servants of the Dark Elders. Danu Talis (known in the modern world as Atlantis) was home to the Elders until it was destroyed during an ancient battle. The Dark Elders wish to restore Danu Talis and rule the world.

After they meet again, Will explains to Nicholas that it was a mistake and he would like to forgive him so now Nicholas does not hate him anymore.

When Josh asks what the green-hooded "teenagers" tailing them are, Sophie explains that they are flesh eaters. This is not, however, their official name. They are also known as the Hooded Ones. The Dark Elders are the ancient immortal gods and goddesses whom Dee and Machiavelli serve. Flamel defeats them by calling in a favor from Iris, the Greek goddess of the rainbow, who knocks out the Genii Cucullati with water from the Greek Underworld River Styx. According to legend, when a person comes in contact with the Styx's water, they will be knocked unconscious for a year and a day.

Aoife is a mighty warrior too. Alexander the Great is not mentioned. Cu Chulainn was also a mighty warrior but he is already killed. Scathach comes with the twins and Nicholas everywhere they go. She is able to defeat 12 highly trained police officers, and is capable of defeating a whole inhuman army. She was only defeated once in single combat, by Niten.

We're told this when Perenelle climbs down the ladder into the lower part of Alcatraz to visit the Crow Goddess. Locking the Morrigan up in Alcatraz would have been a bit pointless, seeing as the Sphinx was hunting the island for Perenelle and probably would have let her out. The Nereids were also serving the Dark Elders, so feeding her to the Nereids likely wouldn't have worked either.

Alcatraz is also called The Isle of the Pelicans. It was discovered by Juan Manuel de Ayala. It also has a Spanish name. It is unused because the salt air rotted away at the limestone, making it easier to escape. Of course, this was at Alcatraz. Robben Island and Devil's Island are other effective prisons, but they are not mentioned in the series. Azkaban is not in this series, though it is a prison.

The Morrigan is what the Irish call the Crow Goddess and the Goddess of death and destruction. 'She stood taller than Dee and was dressed from head to foot in black leather. And Scathach is the good guy.

Nereus, the Dark Elder also known as the Old Man of the Sea, was the father of the Nereids, who are water nymphs. He attacks Perenelle shortly after she makes an alliance with the Crow Goddess, and she drives him off using a spear with the Archon glyph written on it. The spear was originally a part of the Spell of Binding, which Dee used to imprison Aerop-Enap, a giant spider, on Alcatraz.

Stonehenge is probably the most famous megalithic structure. A megalithic structure is an array of tall stones (megaliths) set up into a design. Megaliths can also be tombs of ancient chieftains. Stonehenge is very mysterious because it would take a mighty effort, even by hundreds of strong men to put up even one stone, and back then, all they had was their own strength, no machines. Stonehenge is located in Salisbury, England. The other answers are megaliths, but they are not included in the series.

Zephaniah, the Witch of Endor, is Scathach's grandmother and the wife of Mars Ultor. She not only teaches Sophie Air Magic, she also transfers all of her memories into Sophie's mind. Perenelle Flamel was kidnapped before Sophie's powers were Awakened and Sara Newman does not appear in person until much later in the series. Elderly Aunt Agnes is the temporary guardian of Josh and Sophie. Her true identity is not revealed until the fifth book.

Excalibur is the sword of Ice, Clarent is the sword of Fire, and Joyeuse is the sword of Earth. Joyeuse was also Charlemagne's personal sword. Dee is in possession of all except Clarent. Joyeuse can be used in summoning a fearsome Archon, Coatlicue from her dark prison and creating leygates. Joyeuse is described as "a thing of beauty." When put with the other swords, a gritty brown sand appears on the blade.

He lives in Paris, France. Nicholas Flamel is already married, I made up John of Arc, and Josh Newman is not married and 16 years old.

The Yggdrasill, or The World Tree, is as tall as a skyscraper. The most amazing thing about it is that it is Hekate's house, hollow and completely furnished, yet it is still living. Is that possible? In the Shadowrealm it is.

Leygates are portals that are formed where lines of magical energy (leylines) intersect. They permit instant travel, regardless of distance. Notable leygates are located at Stonehenge, in Paris and at the San Francisco shop belonging to the Witch of Endor, but there are many more scattered throughout our world and the other Shadowrealms. (Scatty hates leygates; they make her nauseous.) Floo Powder, Portkeys and the Knight Bus are all magical forms of transportation used in the Harry Potter books.

There is a book about him called "The Epic of Gilgamesh." He has the knowledge of all of the Magics, but cannot use them as he does not have an aura. He is the oldest humani, even seeing Abraham work the magic to create the Codex. It is said that Abraham himself gave Gilgamesh the gift of immortality, although it was faulty and gives Gilgamesh a corrupted memory, nearly killing Nicholas because of that. Poseidon is never mentioned, and Nereus and Phobos are dreadful creatures. Right now, King Gilgamesh lives near Stonehenge.

Machiavelli and Billy the Kid are sent to Alcatraz by the Dark Elders to kill Perenelle when Nereus fails. The Crow Goddess, now Perenelle's ally, leads the two on a wild goose chase to the D Block in the prison, giving Perenelle enough time to steal their boat and get off the island. Nereus appears again, attempting to prevent her escape, but Perenelle stabs him again with the spear from the Symbols of Binding, forcing him to retreat. Black Hawk does not appear until the fourth book, "The Necromancer", while Scathach and Joan of Arc are still trapped in a Shadowrealm at this point. Nereus is the Old Man of the Sea, so does not need a boat to reach Alcatraz.

Cerberus is a guardian of the Underworld, and Archirty is a messed up name I made. Cernunnos has no magic, though he is an Archon. He is a fearsome sight, wielding a 6 foot long dinosaur jawbone. He turned ugly when he started experimenting on himself when experimenting on others was banned. Cernunnos attacks Palamedes, Will, Nicholas, Scathach, and the twins.
